This topic describes the billing rules and pricing for PolarDB-X instance storage and storage resource packages.

Storage pricing

You can choose between two billing methods for storage: pay-as-you-go (post-paid) and subscription (pre-paid).

Storage resource packages

PolarDB-X provides pre-paid storage resource packages that can be used to offset the costs of pay-as-you-go disks in the same region. These packages are applicable to multiple disk types. The storage for each pay-as-you-go instance is billed separately based on the data volume and storage duration. If you require a large amount of storage, use storage resource packages. They are more flexible and cost-effective than pay-as-you-go disks.

You can purchase a storage resource package from the Resource package management menu in the PolarDB-X console. The minimum package size is 500 GB, and the minimum increment is 100 GB. Select a package size based on your needs.

A storage resource package takes effect immediately after purchase. The effective time is rounded down to the hour of purchase. The package starts to offset pay-as-you-go bills from its effective time until it expires. The package expires at 00:00 on the day after its validity period ends. For example, if you purchase a 10 TB storage resource package with a one-year validity period at 09:10:00 on August 20, 2019, the package becomes effective at 09:00:00 on August 20, 2019, and expires at 00:00:00 on August 21, 2020.

Notes

A storage resource package can offset disk costs only within the same region.
Storage resource packages can offset only pay-as-you-go costs.
Creating and managing storage resource packages by calling an API is not supported.
You cannot reduce the size of a storage resource package after purchase.
A storage resource package cannot be used to offset the costs of backup storage.

Billing rules

Storage resource packages use pre-paid billing. You pay the full amount at the time of purchase, and no additional fees are charged during the validity period. After you purchase a storage resource package for a region, it automatically matches eligible pay-as-you-go disks in that region and offsets pay-as-you-go costs until the package expires.

If your disk usage exceeds the package size, the excess usage is billed on a pay-as-you-go basis. For example, if you purchase a 1 TB storage resource package and have three database instances that use 300 GB, 400 GB, and 500 GB, the excess usage is calculated as follows: 300 GB + 400 GB + 500 GB - 1,000 GB = 200 GB. After the package offset is applied, the excess 200 GB is billed on a pay-as-you-go basis.

You can view the hourly deduction records for your storage resource packages in the Billing Management console.

Pricing

The cost of a storage resource package is calculated by using the following formula:

Pre-paid cost = Validity period × Package size × Unit price

The following table describes the unit price.

Expiration

After a storage resource package expires, it can no longer offset pay-as-you-go disk costs. If you do not renew the package or purchase a new one, all disk usage is billed on a pay-as-you-go basis.

Refunds

You can request a refund for a storage resource package for any reason within five days of purchase.

Note

Each Alibaba Cloud account is eligible for one five-day unconditional refund for a single storage resource package per year.

When a refund is processed, the cost of consumed resources is deducted. Vouchers or other discounts used for the purchase are not refunded. For more information, see Unsubscription rules.
