Use case

An analyst needs to analyze product retail data. In addition to the daily order amount, they recently started tracking a new metric: transportation cost.

This metric resides in a separate dataset. To visualize both metrics in a single chart, you would typically need to join the source tables and create a new dataset for analysis.

Now, with the dataset combination feature, you can quickly complete the analysis without editing the datasets.

  • Select multiple datasets

    1. On the chart's data pane in the dashboard, click Select a dataset.

    2. Click Multi-select, select the logistics information table and the order information table, and then click OK.

  • Configure the dataset combination

After you select multiple datasets, the Edit Dataset Combination window appears.

    1. Configure the following settings:

Dataset Combination Name: Specify a custom name, for example, Combination1.

      Primary Dataset: order information table

      Secondary Dataset: logistics information table

Join Condition: The system automatically identifies and configures the join condition.

    2. Click OK to create the dataset combination. The new combination appears in the data pane, with the primary dataset listed first and the secondary dataset listed second.

  • Build a chart with the dataset combination

    1. Select the order date and order amount fields from the order information table, and the transportation cost field from the logistics information table.

    2. The order date field is the join field. When you add it to the analysis, the system automatically enables the join button for the secondary dataset and then performs join calculations based on this join.

    3. Click Update. The system automatically updates the chart to display the daily data for order amount and transportation cost.
