Create an RDS Custom instance
This topic describes how to create a container-based RDS Custom instance in the ApsaraDB RDS console. An RDS Custom instance runs on an ACK Pro managed cluster. After the instance is created, you can create MySQL Pod instances within the container.
Prerequisites
An ACK Pro managed cluster is created to host the RDS Custom instance. For more information, see Create an ACK managed cluster.
Procedure
-
Log on to the ApsaraDB RDS console. In the left-side navigation pane, choose .
-
Click Create Instance to go to the Custom Creation page.
-
Configure the billing method and basic information.
Parameter
Description
Billing Method
Select the billing method for the instance. Valid values: Subscription and Pay-As-You-Go.
Region
Select the region where the instance resides. The following regions are currently supported (subject to the console):
-
China: China (Hangzhou), China (Shanghai), China (Beijing), China (Ulanqab), China (Shenzhen), China (Chengdu)
-
Asia Pacific: Singapore
Engine
The database engine. The value is MySQL.
Mode
The billing mode. The value is Fixed Price.
SLR Authorization
Displays the SLR authorization status.
-
If the status is Authorized , no action is required.
-
If the status is Unauthorized, complete the authorization first. For more information about SLR authorization, see RDS Custom service-linked role.
-
-
Configure the container cluster and network.
Parameter
Description
Edition
The value is Container Edition.
ACK Cluster
Select a created ACK Pro managed cluster. If no cluster is available, click Create ACK Cluster to create one.
VPC
Select the VPC to which the ACK managed cluster belongs. To create a new VPC, click Create VPC.
vSwitch
Select the vSwitch that corresponds to the zone where the instance resides. To create a new vSwitch, click Create vSwitch.
-
Configure the instance specification and security group.
Parameter
Description
Product Type
The value is DB Node.
Instance Architecture
The value is Cloud Disk.
Instance Specification
Filter by Specification Family, CPU (Cores), and Memory, or enter a specification name in the search box, and then select the desired specification from the list.
The specification list displays Specification Family, Specification Code, CPU (Cores), Memory, Processor, and Reference Price. After you select a specification, the page displays the current selection, for example, Bare Metal Container Vnode mysql.vx8i.24xlarge.9cm (192 vCPU, 1536 GiB).
NoteThe preceding specification is for reference only. Select a specification based on your actual business requirements. For more information about instance specifications, see RDS Custom instance types.
Security Group
Select the security group for the instance. The list includes security groups that are automatically created by the ACK managed cluster. You can also click Create Security Group to create a new one.
-
(Optional) Expand More Configurations and enter remarks for the instance in the Instance Description field to help identify the instance later. The description can be up to 256 characters in length.
-
On the right side of the page, confirm the Quantity and the configuration summary, verify the Estimated Cost, and then click Confirm Order to complete the payment.
-
Go back to the Custom Instance List page and check the newly created instance. If the Status of the instance is Running, the instance is created.
The list displays information such as Instance ID/Description, Status, Node Type, Architecture, Container Cluster, Configuration, IP Address, Zone, and Billing Method. The Node Type is displayed as Container Edition, and the Container Cluster displays the ID of the Custom container cluster that hosts the instance.
Create MySQL Pod instances
After you create an RDS Custom instance, you can create MySQL Pod instances within the container. The following methods are supported:
-
Use the MySQL Operator platform: Deploy MySQL Operator with one click and create MySQL Pod instances through the visual interface. For more information, see MySQL Operator user guide.
ImportantBefore you use the MySQL Operator platform, verify network connectivity. If the client and the MySQL Operator instance are in the same VPC, you can directly access the MySQL Operator platform. If they are not in the same VPC, configure public access first. For more information, see Configure public access for MySQL Operator.
-
Create manually: Use Kubernetes scheduling to launch MySQL instance Pods on the RDS Custom instance.
