To manage tasks more effectively, use Task Center to view the progress of ongoing tasks and review details of tasks from the last 30 days. For some database engines, you can adjust the switchover time for specific tasks and schedule it for a specific time. This topic describes the task types and available actions in Task Center, and shows you how to modify the switchover time.

Supported tasks and actions

Important

Tasks for RDS for MySQL, RDS for PostgreSQL, and RDS for SQL Server instances are supported, but not for RDS for MariaDB instances.

Procedure

  1. You can access the Task Center in one of the following ways:

    • Go to the ApsaraDB RDS console. In the left-side navigation pane, click Task Center.

    • Access the Task Center from the instance details page:

      1. Go to the RDS Instances page. In the top navigation bar, select a region and click the ID of the target instance.

      2. In the upper-right corner of the instance details page, click the image icon.

  2. Filter tasks by start time, keyword (task ID or resource ID), or status. To view task details, find the desired task and click Details in the Actions column.

The Actions column also provides options such as Modify switching time and retry. Available task statuses include Succeeded, Failed, Pending Intervention, Pending, Running, Terminating, Terminated, and Pending Schedule.

  3. To modify the switching time for a task in the Pending Schedule state, click Modify switching time in the Actions column. In the dialog box that appears, select one of the following options:

    • Execute Immediately: The switchover starts immediately.

    • Execute Within Maintenance Window: The switchover occurs during the instance's Maintenance Window.

    • Execute at Specified Time: The switchover occurs at the time you specify.

FAQ

  • Q: Why is the task progress percentage stuck?

A: The task progress percentage is not linear. It is calculated based on a combination of factors, including the task type, data volume, workload, and your instance's host resources. Stalled progress typically indicates that a time-intensive backend operation is in progress, such as cross-host data migration, a backup, a download, or a major version upgrade. Please wait for the task to complete.

  • Q: Why isn't a task displayed in Task Center after I perform an operation in the console?

A: Task Center displays a task only if the operation is supported. Additionally, it does not display tasks created before its release.

  • Q: Can I cancel a task that is in progress in Task Center?

A: No. A task in progress cannot be canceled because it may involve uninterruptible operations such as refunds, backend data migration, or switchovers.

  • Q: Does Task Center support scheduling tasks to configure the RCUs of a Serverless instance?

A: No. Task Center only allows you to monitor the progress of current tasks and view historical task details from the last 30 days. For some database engines, you can adjust the switchover time for specific tasks and set a scheduled switchover time. For more information, see Supported tasks and operations.

An ApsaraDB RDS for MySQL Serverless instance features auto scaling capabilities and is billed by the second. The compute resources of an instance automatically scale up or down within the RCU range that you specify, based on the workload. You can manually adjust this RCU range. RCU auto scaling is triggered under the following conditions:

    • Scale-up: Occurs when either CPU utilization or memory usage rises to its scale-up threshold.

    • Scale-down: Occurs when both CPU utilization and memory usage fall below their scale-down thresholds.
