You can enable the Initiative Alert feature or set up custom alert rules. When a metric meets the conditions defined in an alert rule, the system sends a notification to all contacts in the specified alert contact group.

Background

The monitoring and alerting feature is powered by CloudMonitor. You can use this feature to configure metrics and alert rules. When a rule is triggered, the system sends notifications by email and text message to all members of an alert contact group. You can manage your alert contact groups to ensure the right people receive alerts promptly.

Method 1: Enable Initiative Alert

The Initiative Alert feature for your ApsaraDB RDS for SQL Server instance lets you quickly set up a basic alerting system. This helps you stay informed about potential issues with key metrics.

  1. Go to the Instances page. In the top navigation bar, select the region in which the RDS instance resides. Then, find the RDS instance and click the ID of the instance.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, click Monitoring and Alerts.

  3. Click the Alerts tab, and then turn on the Initiative Alert switch on the right.

The metrics and alert rules are as displayed in the console.

Method 2: Create a custom alert rule

After you report monitoring data by using custom monitoring APIs, you can create custom alert rules for the data. When a metric's value reaches a specified threshold, the system triggers an alert and sends a notification. For detailed instructions, see Create an alert rule.

Manage alert rules

After you create an alert rule, you can modify, disable, enable, or delete it. You can also view the alert history to handle triggered alerts. For detailed instructions, see Manage alert rules.
