Edition

Description

Scenario

Basic Edition

  • Single-node architecture with compute-storage separation.

  • Read-only instances are not supported.

  • Personal learning.

  • Microsites.

  • Dev and test environments for SMEs.

RDS High-availability Edition

  • Primary-secondary HA architecture with automatic failover. The secondary instance is inaccessible.

  • Read-only instances are not supported.

  • Production databases for medium to large enterprises.

  • Internet, IoT, e-commerce, logistics, and gaming databases.

RDS Cluster Edition

  • Primary-secondary HA architecture with automatic failover. The secondary instance is readable.

  • Supports one to seven read-only instances for higher read throughput. Read-only instances do not participate in primary instance election or failover.

  • Production databases for medium to large enterprises.

  • New retail, automotive, and large-scale ERP databases.

Change edition

Note

If your instance does not meet these requirements, you cannot directly change its product edition. In this case, you must create an instance with the target edition and migrate data from the original instance.
