Delete a resource group

If you no longer need a resource group, you can delete it. The default resource group cannot be deleted.

Prerequisites

The resource group does not contain any resources. If resources exist, transfer them to another resource group first. For more information, see Transfer resources across resource groups.

Procedure

Log in to the Resource Management console.
On the Resource Group page, click the name of the target resource group.
On the Settings tab, click Delete.
In the Delete dialog box, click OK.

Warning
A deleted resource group cannot be recovered.

Results

The system verifies that the resource group contains no resources. This process takes up to three days, during which the resource group status is Deleting….

While in Deleting… status, the system renames the Resource Group Identifier to the format <original-identifier>-<resource-group-ID>-<deletion-time>. For example, TestGroup becomes TestGroup-rg-aekzcobqwwj****-20210812 if deleted on 2021-08-12.
If a resource group in Deleting… status still contains resources, the deletion fails and the identifier reverts to its original value. If the original identifier is already in use, the current identifier is retained. Remove the remaining resources and retry the deletion.
A resource group in Deleting… status does not count toward your resource group quota.
