Guide to adding identifiers to AI-generated images

This document describes how to add data identifiers to images.

Background

According to the "Measures for Identifying AI-Generated and Synthesized Content", starting from September 1, 2025, all content generated by artificial intelligence (AI), such as images, audio, and videos, must include both visible and invisible identifiers. These identifiers can be metadata tags or digital watermarks. This ensures that the source of the content is traceable and identifiable.The Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) platform provides the CreateWmEmbedTask API. This API helps enterprises manage content identifiers efficiently and meet compliance requirements.

The bit width of the watermark information. The default value is 32. This parameter must be the same for both embedding and fetching. For example, if you use a 40-bit software development kit (SDK) for embedding, you must also set this parameter to 40 for fetching.

Enumeration values:

  • 32: 32.

  • 40: 40.

  • 64: 64.

The value range depends on the WmInfoSize parameter:

  • If WmInfoSize is 64, the value range is 1 to 18446744073709551615.

Metadata format description

The XmpKvBase64 field requires metadata in Base64 format. Before you encode the metadata in Base64, it must meet the following format requirements.

  • 2: (For distribution platforms only) The content may be generated and synthesized by AI.

ContentProducer

The code or name of the service provider, used to identify the content producer.

  • Required fields

    • Digits 1-2: The identity format definition code, which records the version of the encoding rules. For codes created using this guide, this is fixed to "00".

    • Digit 3: The entity type. Set to "1" for an organization or "2" for an individual.

    • Digit 4: Set to "1" when an organization's entity is attached using its Unified Social Credit Code.

    • Digits 5-22: The organization's entity code, which is its Unified Social Credit Code.

  • Extension fields

    • Digit 23: Set to "1" for generation and synthesis services, or "2" for content distribution.

    • Digits 24-27: The service or model number. This must be unique.

The content production number. This is a unique identifier used by the production platform to trace synthesized content.

This can store information for the generation and synthesis service provider to implement their own security protection and ensure content and identity integrity. A hashing mechanism based on ContentProducer and ProduceID can be used for secure storage and verification of key information.

The name, number, or code of the distribution platform. For services that provide AI-generated and synthesized content, this can be the same as ContentProducer.

The content distribution number. This is a unique number assigned by the distribution platform to the distributed generated and synthesized content.
