Offset rules for storage plans
Instance dimension
ApsaraDB for SelectDB applies your purchased storage plans to offset usage based on instance product type priority, region priority, and the offset factor. The storage plan with the earliest expiration time is used first. If your storage resource usage exceeds the total capacity of your storage plans, the excess usage is billed at the pay-as-you-go rate. For more information about pay-as-you-go storage resource rates, see Billable items and pricing. The following figure shows the priority for offsetting instance resources using a resource plan.
In the figure, the Chinese mainland currently includes China (Hangzhou), China (Shanghai), China (Qingdao), China (Beijing), China (Zhangjiakou), China (Hohhot), China (Ulanqab), China (Shenzhen), China (Heyuan), China (Guangzhou), and China (Chengdu).
Storage plan dimension
If multiple valid storage plans exist, the offset priority is shown in the following figure.
Billing examples
Storage plan capacity is equal to storage resource usage
You purchase a 200 GB storage plan with a 1-month subscription. All your ApsaraDB for SelectDB instances are in the China (Hangzhou) region, and the total storage resource usage is stable at 200 GB per hour. The storage plan capacity is fully used for the offset, and there is no excess usage. Therefore, the storage resource fee for the month is
CNY 0.12 per GB/month × 200 GB × 1 month + CNY 0.00 = CNY 24.00. Compared to the pay-as-you-go billing method, you saveCNY 0.0003 per GB/hour × 200 GB × 24 hours × 30 days - CNY 24.00 = CNY 19.20.Storage plan capacity is greater than storage resource usage
You purchase a 400 GB storage plan with a 1-month subscription. You have three ApsaraDB for SelectDB instances. One instance is in the China (Hangzhou) region, one is in the Singapore region, and one is in the Japan (Tokyo) region. The storage resource usage for each instance is stable at 100 GB per hour. The storage plan offset amount is
100 GB × 1 + 100 GB × 1.133 + 100 GB × 1.183 = 331.6 GB. The storage resource usage does not exceed the plan's capacity. Therefore, the storage resource fee for the month isCNY 0.12 per GB/month × 400 GB × 1 month + CNY 0.00 = CNY 48.00. Compared to the pay-as-you-go billing method, you saveCNY 0.0003 per GB/hour × (100 GB + 100 GB + 100 GB) × 24 hours × 30 days - CNY 48.00 = CNY 16.80.Storage plan capacity is less than storage resource usage
You purchase a 300 GB storage plan with a 1-month subscription. You have three ApsaraDB for SelectDB instances. One instance is in the China (Hangzhou) region with a stable hourly usage of 150 GB. One instance is in the Singapore region with a stable hourly usage of 100 GB. One instance is in the Japan (Tokyo) region with a stable hourly usage of 100 GB. After the storage plan capacity is fully used for offsets, excess storage resource usage from the Japan (Tokyo) region remains. The excess amount is
100 GB - (300 GB - 150 GB × 1 - 100 GB × 1.133) / 1.183 = 69 GB(rounded). This usage is billed on a pay-as-you-go basis. Therefore, the storage resource fee for the month isCNY 0.12 per GB/month × 300 GB × 1 month + CNY 0.0003 per GB/hour × 69 GB × 24 hours × 30 days = CNY 50.90. Compared to the pay-as-you-go billing method, you saveCNY 0.0003 per GB/hour × (150 GB + 100 GB + 100 GB) × 24 hours × 30 days - CNY 50.90 = CNY 24.70.
Purchase a storage plan
If your storage resource usage exceeds the capacity of your storage plan, the excess usage is billed at the pay-as-you-go rate. You should estimate or determine your storage resource usage before you purchase a storage plan with a suitable capacity. This helps prevent waste from over-provisioning and ensures complete coverage.
When you configure the subscription duration on the ApsaraDB for SelectDB storage plan purchase page, you can choose whether to enable auto-renewal. We recommend that you select Auto-renewal. This prevents the storage plan from expiring, which could lead to incomplete offset coverage and additional costs from pay-as-you-go billing.
A storage plan takes effect immediately after a successful purchase. During its validity period, the plan offsets the storage resource usage of your ApsaraDB for SelectDB instances on an hourly basis. The offset is applied based on the instance product type priority, region priority, and offset factor.
