Alibaba Cloud Elastic IP Address (EIP) works with Simple Log Service to provide a fine-grained monitoring feature. This feature pushes high-precision network bandwidth data to Simple Log Service as logs, which helps you monitor real-time changes in your Internet service traffic and promptly adjust the peak bandwidth of your EIP. This topic describes the assets, billing, and limits of EIP logs.

Features

EIPs carry large volumes of Internet Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) traffic. This traffic requires low latency and high-quality public bandwidth. If public bandwidth usage reaches 100% and the EIP is not scaled out in time, service traffic can be throttled, leading to packet loss. This degrades client access quality and user experience. The fine-grained monitoring feature helps you monitor traffic fluctuations in real time and adjust the EIP peak bandwidth. This prevents access delays caused by bandwidth throttling.

The fine-grained monitoring feature lets you view the following monitoring data.

  • Peak outbound and inbound bandwidth per second

    The peak outbound and inbound bandwidth of the EIP per second. The unit is Bps.

  • Outbound and inbound packet rate per second

    The number of outbound and inbound data packets for the EIP per second. The unit is packets per second (pps).

  • Outbound and inbound packet loss rate per second

    The outbound and inbound packet loss rate for the EIP per second. The unit is pps.

  • New outbound and inbound TCP connection rate per second

    The rate of new outbound and inbound TCP connections for the EIP per second. The unit is pps.

Assets

  • Custom Simple Log Service Project and LogStore

    Important

    • Do not delete the related Simple Log Service Project and LogStore before you disable the fine-grained monitoring feature. Otherwise, logs can no longer be sent to Simple Log Service.

    • When you create a custom LogStore, different billable items are generated based on the billing mode. For more information, see Billable items.

    • After you enable the fine-grained monitoring feature for an EIP, the data retention period of the related LogStore is automatically set to 7 days.

  • Dedicated dashboard

    A dedicated dashboard is generated by default.

    Note

    Do not modify the dedicated dashboard because it may be upgraded or updated at any time. You can create a custom dashboard to display query results. For more information, see Create a dashboard.

    Description

    eip_monitoring

    Monitors real-time changes in Internet service traffic. This includes peak outbound and inbound bandwidth per second, outbound and inbound packet rate per second, outbound and inbound packet loss rate per second, and new outbound and inbound TCP connection rate per second.

Billing

  • The EIP log feature is free of charge.

  • If the associated LogStore uses the pay-by-feature billing mode, you are charged for storage space, read traffic, the number of requests, data transformation, and data shipping after Simple Log Service collects the EIP logs. For more information, see Billable items for the pay-by-feature mode.

  • If the associated LogStore uses the pay-by-ingested-data billing mode, you are charged based on the volume of raw data ingested from the EIP logs. For more information, see Billable items for the pay-by-ingested-data mode.

Limits

  • The EIP instance and the Simple Log Service Project must be in the same region.

  • Each Alibaba Cloud account can enable fine-grained monitoring for up to 10 EIPs.

    To enable fine-grained monitoring for more instances, submit a ticket.
