Savings plan overview
A savings plan is a discount program where you commit to a specific amount of spending for a term to receive lower pay-as-you-go rates. After a savings plan takes effect, it applies a discount to eligible pay-as-you-go bills. This topic describes the payment types, discount rates, and billing coverage of savings plans.
Savings plans cover only the costs of raw data ingested for the pay-by-ingested-data billing method. They do not cover billable items for the pay-by-feature billing method. To cover billable items for the pay-by-feature billing method, you can purchase a resource plan.
Stacking savings plans for the pay-by-ingested-data billing method is not supported.
Savings plan payment types
The following table describes the supported payment types for purchasing a savings plan for the pay-by-ingested-data billing method.
Billing method | Description |
All Upfront | Pay the entire fee at the time of purchase. No other fees are charged during the validity period. |
No Upfront | No payment is required at the time of purchase. Fees are paid daily during the validity period. |
The payment type affects the discount you receive. The All Upfront option provides a higher discount than the No Upfront option, which means it covers more of your pay-as-you-go bills.
With the No Upfront option, billing starts on the day of purchase. With the All Upfront option, coverage for the day of purchase is free. This means the total cost for a No Upfront plan is higher than an All Upfront plan by one day's fee.
Savings plan discount rates
After a savings plan takes effect, it covers pay-as-you-go bills at a discounted unit price. The specific discount rate is determined by the following factors:
Savings plan specifications: The larger the plan size (the committed data ingestion volume), the higher the discount rate.
Savings plan payment type: The All Upfront option offers a higher discount rate than the No Upfront option.
