Why do overdue payments occur even after I purchase a resource plan?
Simple Log Service offers new and old resource plans, each with different deduction rules. This topic explains why overdue payments may occur after you purchase a resource plan.
You can view your consumption details for Simple Log Service in Expenses and Costs. For more information, see Bill query.
New resource plans
Overdue payments may occur after you purchase a resource plan for the following reasons:
Your actual usage exceeds the specifications of your resource plan.
For example, you purchase a one-year resource plan that provides 100 CU per month. If your resource usage for the month exceeds 100 CU, the excess usage is billed on a pay-as-you-go basis. This can result in an overdue payment. To avoid this, you can purchase additional resource plans.
Billing delays.
A resource plan takes effect immediately after purchase and automatically covers the fees for Simple Log Service usage. However, bills are generated on the following day. For example, your resource plan becomes active at 10:00 on December 29, 2020. If you receive a bill for an overdue payment at 04:00 on December 30, 2020, the charges may have been incurred before your plan became active at 10:00 on December 29, 2020. When you receive a bill, carefully check the time when the charges were incurred.
Overdue payments from other cloud products.
New Simple Log Service resource plans cover only the billable items for Simple Log Service. You are still charged for any other cloud products that you use.
Resource plan is effective but not applied
Problem description
You purchased a new Simple Log Service resource plan (prepaid plan 2.0), but no deduction records appear and pay-as-you-go fees continue to accrue.
Possible causes
Resource plan status — The resource plan is not in the Effective state in Expenses and Costs.
Effective time — The resource plan covers only the fees that are generated after its effective time. It does not cover overdue payments that were incurred before the plan took effect.
Billing delay — Bills are generated on the following day, and the monthly settlement is confirmed on the 3rd day of the following month.
System issue — The resource plan is in the Effective state, but no deduction occurs 24 hours after the effective time.

Legacy resource plans
Overdue payments may occur after you purchase a resource plan for the following reasons:
You purchased resource plans that cover only some of the billable items for Simple Log Service.
Storage plans cover only storage fees. Index traffic plans cover only log indexing traffic fees. Read/write traffic plans cover only log read and write traffic fees. Other billable items, such as active shard leases, text message alerts, data shipping, data transformation, public network read traffic, and time series index traffic, are charged on a pay-as-you-go basis.
Your usage is higher than your resource plan's allowance.
For example, you have a 100 GB storage plan but use 110 GB. The extra 10 GB of storage is charged on a pay-as-you-go basis. This can cause an overdue payment. To prevent this, you can purchase additional resource plans.
Delayed billing.
A resource plan automatically covers usage fees for Simple Log Service resources after the plan becomes active. Resource plans take effect immediately after purchase, but Simple Log Service generates bills on the following day. For example, if your resource plan becomes active at 10:00 on December 29, 2020 and you receive a bill for an overdue payment at 04:00 on December 30, 2020, these charges may have been incurred before your plan became active at 10:00 on December 29, 2020. When you receive a bill, carefully check when the charges were incurred.
Overdue payments from other cloud products.
The new Simple Log Service resource plans only offset billing items for Simple Log Service. Your account can still have overdue payments due to charges from other cloud products.
