Solutions
-
Log on to the Windows server.
-
Start Windows Setup.
-
Open the CMD command-line tool.
-
Switch to the SMC client directory and run the SMC client.
For example, the default path for SMC client version 2.8.3 is
C:\smc\go2aliyun_client2.8.3_windows_x86_64\.cd C:\smc\go2aliyun_client2.8.3_windows_x86_64\ go2aliyun_client.exe --rerun --verboseAfter you run the SMC client, Windows Setup starts.

-
In the Windows Setup dialog box, select No thanks.
In this example, Windows 2008 is upgraded to Windows 2012.
-
Select the operating system to install.
Select the last option. In this example, select Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter (Server with a GUI).
-
Accept the default settings for the remaining steps.
If you encounter one of the following errors, use the corresponding solution.
-
Error message: "There are multiple users logged on to Windows. Ask other users to log off."
Ask other users to log off, and then repeat Step 2 to Step 4.
-
Error message: "Windows must be restarted before continuing to make necessary changes to system files."
Restart the Windows server, and then repeat Step 2 to Step 4.
-
Error message: "Windows Setup could not find a valid hard disk drive to store temporary installation files. To install Windows, create more free space on the hard disk drive or add a new hard disk drive."
On the source server, expand the C drive or carefully remove unnecessary files or applications, and then repeat Step 2 to Step 4.
-
Error message: "Setup has detected that at least one of the following roles is installed: Remote Desktop Session Host (RDSH), Remote Desktop Connection Broker (RDCB), Remote Desktop Virtualization Host (RDVH), or Remote Desktop Web Access (RDWA)."
On the source server, uninstall these components and then repeat Step 2 to Step 4.
