The image check feature verifies that an image is valid and can be used to create a fully functional ECS instance. When you migrate a server, image check is enabled by default. It helps you quickly find and fix potential issues with the image or ECS instance after migration. This process ensures that the image meets Alibaba Cloud standards and increases the success rate of launching ECS instances.
Scenarios
When you migrate a server to an Alibaba Cloud ECS custom image, the Image Check feature is enabled by default. If you did not enable image check in a previous migration configuration or template, we recommend enabling it for the current migration to improve the success rate of image creation.
The image check items are different for supported Linux and Windows operating systems. For a list of supported check items and recommended fixes to improve image quality, see Image check items.
The image check starts after the image is created and does not affect the creation process, even if the check fails. To learn more about image check, see Check and repair custom images.
Applicability
You can use image check only when the migration target type is ECS image.
Limits
-
Image check is not supported by some operating systems. For a list of unsupported Linux and Windows operating systems, see Operating systems that do not support image check.
-
If the operating system you are migrating is unsupported, the Image Check option may not appear on the migration configuration page. This is expected behavior.
Billing
Image check is free of charge.
Procedure
Enable the image check feature during the migration configuration phase. After the migration is complete, the system generates an image check report.
-
Enable image check in the migration configuration.
This step only describes how to enable and disable image check. For information about other parameters, see Migrate servers to ECS or Create an agentless migration task for a VMware VM.
-
Target Type: Select ECS image.
-
In the Advanced Settings section, configure image check.
-
: Enables image check. This is the default setting. -
: Disables image check. You can manually disable this feature if you do not need it.

-
Wait for the migration to complete.
On the Migration jobs page, you can view the migration speed and remaining synchronization time. Wait for the migration job to complete. The migration is successful when the status changes to Completed.
-
View the image check result.
-
After the migration is complete, check completed appears in the Migration deliverable column. Click View Report to view the results.
-
In the Image Check Results dialog box, view the results.
-
If no fixes are recommended, you can use the image to create an ECS instance.
-
If fixes are recommended, follow the instructions in Image check items and remediation to resolve the issues before you create an ECS instance. Otherwise, instance creation may fail.
The results are categorized into three types: Strongly recommended fixes, Recommended optimizations, and No risks found. The number next to each category indicates how many items it contains.

After the image check is complete, use the resulting custom image to create an ECS instance.
