IoT Security Operations Hub (pay-as-you-go) billing

Updated at:

IoT Security Operations Hub introduced commercial billing at 00:00 on October 20, 2022. This topic describes the billing details.

Billable scope: IoT Security Operations Hub

IoT Security Operations Hub is a feature set within IoT Security Center. It includes security detection (excluding firmware security detection), security compliance, security protection (excluding firmware hardening), and security analytics.

Billing model: Pay-as-you-go

IoT Security Operations Hub supports the pay-as-you-go billing method. The service can be used without an agent, with an integrated agent, or a combination of both. This topic describes the pay-as-you-go billing method.

Note

Without agent: A risk detection service based on Alibaba Cloud IoT Platform logs. This does not include the risk detection service under the Log Detection menu.

With agent (integrated agent): Provides security detection and protection capabilities based on a device-side agent. For optimal security detection and protection, you must integrate the agent on your devices.

Only active devices are counted.

Authorizations for the same Alibaba Cloud account cannot be shared across different regions.

Device: Only the number of active devices is counted.

Usage notes

The fee for a single instance is calculated as follows: Number of active devices for the day × Unit price.

  • Instance: An Enterprise Edition instance of Alibaba Cloud IoT Platform. If your account has multiple instances, a separate pay-as-you-go bill is generated for each instance. The total amount for all instances is deducted at once.

  • Number of active devices for the day: The total number of active devices in a single instance during a calendar day (from 00:00:00 to 23:59:59). A device is considered active if it meets any of the following criteria on a given day:

    • The device connects to Alibaba Cloud IoT Platform.

    • The device reports device-side security data through the IoT Security Agent.

    • The device retrieves or updates security rules from the server-side through the IoT Security Agent.

    • The device sends a service request to the IoT Security server-side API in any form.

  • Unit price: The fee for each active device in an instance, which is CNY 0.03 per device per day.

Important

After the pay-as-you-go method takes effect, you must manually enable the security detection feature for each Enterprise Edition instance. The feature is effective only for the instance for which it is enabled.

If you started using the service during the free trial period, you must enable security detection to continue using the service after the pay-as-you-go method takes effect.

Data retention period

After you disable security detection for an IoT Platform instance, IoT Security Operations Hub stores the security data for that instance for a maximum of six months. Data older than six months is automatically deleted.

Overdue payments

If your Alibaba Cloud account has an overdue payment, you will receive notifications by text message and email. To continue using the IoT Security Operations Hub service, you must add funds to your account within seven days.

Top-up instructions

IoT Security Operations Hub

If your account has an overdue payment but is within the service suspension protection limit, IoT Security Operations Hub continues to provide services normally.

If the overdue amount exceeds the service suspension protection limit, IoT Security Operations Hub enters a suspended state. In this state, security detection, remediation, and policy change tasks are no longer supported. You can still view historical security data and information.

If the service remains suspended for seven days and the bill is still not paid, the instance is released. You will receive a text message or email notification one day before the instance is released. After the instance is released, its configurations and data are permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.

This service uses the pay-as-you-go billing method. If a payment is overdue, simply add funds to your account.

If you add funds within the service suspension protection period, your services will not be affected by the suspension.

If you add funds within seven days after the IoT Security Operations Hub service is suspended, the system immediately attempts to pay the outstanding bills. After the payment is successful, the IoT Security Operations Hub service resumes immediately.

Note

Alibaba Cloud provides service suspension protection. This feature lets you continue using Alibaba Cloud services for a specific period or up to a specific amount after a pay-as-you-go resource has an overdue payment. Billing continues as normal during the suspension protection period. The protection limit is not an upper limit on the total overdue amount. Your protection limit or duration is automatically calculated and updated each month based on factors such as your historical spending on Alibaba Cloud. For more information, see Overdue payment and service suspension.

How to disable IoT Security Operations Hub (pay-as-you-go)

Log on to the product console. On the Authorization page, find your Enterprise Edition instance in the IoT Security Operations Hub instance list and perform the Shutdown operation.

Important

Why am I still billed and charged the day after I perform the Shutdown operation?

Before you performed the Shutdown operation, IoT Security Operations Hub had already performed security detection on the active devices for that day. Therefore, fees were incurred for that day. These fees are billed and deducted on the following day.

After you perform the Shutdown operation, IoT Security Operations Hub immediately stops the detection service. It does not perform security detection on any new active devices.
