This topic describes the connection types that IoT Security Center provides to help you get started.

Connection types

IoT Security Center provides three connection types based on whether a device can integrate a security SDK and access the Internet:

  • Security detection: This connection type is for devices that cannot integrate a security SDK but can access the Internet.

  • Directly connected device: This connection type is for devices that can integrate a security SDK and access the Internet.

  • All-in-one security appliance: This connection type is for devices that cannot access the Internet.

The following table describes the usage and scenarios for each connection type.

Connection type

Usage

Scenarios

Security detection

Detects potential security threats by scanning the device firmware.

  • Performing security assessments on smart devices.

  • Connecting to the firmware detection API to trigger threat detection.

Directly connected device

Manages devices centrally using Alibaba Cloud IoT Security Center.

• Connecting a device to the public cloud to use IoT Security Center for security detection and protection. • Performing MLPS 2.0 security compliance remediation (public cloud).

All-in-one security appliance

Manages hybrid cloud devices centrally using an IoT security management gateway.

• Providing security detection and protection for a smart device that cannot access the public cloud by deploying an Alibaba Cloud IoT security management gateway in the network. • Performing MLPS 2.0 security compliance remediation (hybrid cloud).
