Configuration Advisor is an intelligent tool in the ApsaraVideo VOD (VOD) console that detects configuration issues and provides guidance. After you activate the service, it automatically identifies configuration gaps that affect video uploading, transcoding, and playback, and provides one-click fixes or guided instructions to resolve them.
Feature access
Log on to the ApsaraVideo VOD console. In the navigation pane on the left, choose Tools > Configuration Advisor to go to the Configuration Advisor details page.
The Service Status Detection module and the Configuration Advisor banner in the upper-right corner of the Overview page also display the current number of issues and provide a shortcut to the details page.

The top of the page displays the overall scan results. Risk levels are color-coded for quick identification:

New user onboarding
When you log on to the console for the first time after activating ApsaraVideo VOD, a Region Selection dialog box appears, prompting you to select a service region. After you select a region and click Start Using, the system automatically enables VOD system storage (locally redundant, private permissions) for the chosen region and switches the region selector at the top of the console to the selected region. You can switch regions at any time using the region selector at the top of the console.
The Overview page provides three shortcuts for getting started: Upload Video, Manage Videos, and View Playback Data.
Check items
Configuration Advisor currently provides the following checks, covering key scenarios such as storage, distribution, transcoding, and security.
Storage enablement status
-
Detection Scope: The currently selected region.
-
If storage is not enabled, a 'Critical' risk is displayed. Click Enable Now to automatically enable VOD system storage.
This action is irreversible. Confirm before proceeding.
Accelerated domain name
-
Detection Scope: Account-level (global).
-
If no accelerated domain name is configured, a 'Critical' risk is displayed. Click Configure Now to navigate to the domain name management page.
The accelerated domain name must have a valid ICP filing. You can add up to 20 domain names per account.
CNAME record
-
Detection Scope: Account-level (global).
-
If a CNAME record is not configured, a 'Critical' risk is displayed. Click the corresponding domain name to go to the domain management page and complete the configuration.
New CNAME records take effect immediately. Changes to existing records can take up to 72 hours to propagate. For detailed instructions, see Configure a CNAME record by using Alibaba Cloud DNS.
HTTPS certificate
-
Detection Scope: Account-level (global).
-
If an HTTPS certificate is not configured, a 'Needs Attention' risk is displayed. Videos cannot be played in environments that enforce HTTPS, such as Mini Programs.
After you enable HTTPS, you can also configure HTTP/2 to improve performance. For detailed instructions, see Configure HTTP/2.
Transcoding templates
-
Detection Scope: The currently selected region.
-
If no transcoding template is configured, a 'Needs Attention' risk is displayed. Click Create Custom to go to the transcoding template group configuration page.
Storage permissions
-
Detection Scope: Account-level (global).
-
A public-read bucket is insecure because anyone can read, write, or delete its objects. This configuration can also lead to high data transfer costs.
-
The risk levels include:
-
Warning: The storage is set to public-read, posing a security risk.
-
Critical: The storage is set to public-read, posing a critical security risk.
-
-
Click Go to Management to navigate to the storage management page. We recommend that you change the storage permission to private.
Upload
You can upload videos by using local upload or URL-based fetch. The system provides four sample videos (AI Video Translation, Subtitle Removal, Montage Clip, and Video DEMO) that you can select to try the URL-based fetch feature.
FAQ
Do check results change with region?
Yes. The storage enablement status and transcoding template checks are region-specific. When you switch to a new region, the system performs a new scan.
How long for rescan results?
Results are generally updated in real time. However, some server-side data is synchronized hourly, which can cause a slight delay for certain data points.
