Elastic Desktop Service uses the following terms. Understanding these concepts and their relationships helps you set up and manage cloud computing environments.
People

| administrator | Personnel who create, manage, and maintain cloud computers — for example, the O&M engineer of Enterprise A. |
| end user | Personnel who use cloud computers — for example, a student in University A. |
| console | A platform on which an administrator can perform management, control, and O&M on resources. Use the Elastic Desktop Service console to create and manage office networks, templates, users, images, cloud computer templates, applications, snapshots, and policies, and to monitor sessions and cloud computers. |
Infrastructure
| Term | Description |
|---|---|
| region | A geographical location where an Alibaba Cloud data center is deployed. Regions are named after the cities where the data centers are located — for example, the China (Qingdao) region data center is located in Qingdao, China. |
| office network | A collection of environment configurations for cloud computers, including secure office network settings, user account systems, and premium bandwidth plans. Cloud computers are deployed within an office network. |
| cloud computer | A virtual computer in the cloud. A cloud computer consists of vCPUs, memory, an OS, a network, and disks. |
| computer pool | A group of cloud computers — formerly called a computer pool. Use a computer pool to change specifications and modify policies and images for multiple cloud computers at once. The system can also create and release cloud computers in a pool automatically based on an automatic scaling policy. |
| cloud computer template | A template that defines the configuration of a cloud computer, including an image, vCPUs, memory, GPU memory, system disk size, and data disk size. |
Compute resources

| CPU | A central processing unit (CPU) can contain several physical cores. You can use Hyper-Threading (HT) technology to create two virtual processing cores for each physical core. |
| vCPU | A virtual CPU (vCPU) is a virtual processing core assigned to a cloud computer. |
Software and configuration
| Term | Description |

| image | A package of information required to run a cloud computer, including the OS and initialization data for applications. |
| snapshot | A stateful data file that captures the contents of a disk at a specific point in time. Use snapshots to back up and restore disk data. |
| policy | A set of rules that controls permissions for USB redirection, disks, clipboards, client logon methods, and access domains. Policies ensure secure data transfer between clients and cloud computers. |
Directory services
| Term | Description |
|---|---|
| AD domain server | An Active Directory (AD) domain server — also known as an AD domain controller — is a server with Active Directory installed. It manages domain interactions such as user logons and authentications. |
| DNS server | A Domain Name System (DNS) server stores the domain names and corresponding IP addresses of all hosts on the network, and resolves domain names to IP addresses. |
| AD Connector | A component that connects Elastic Desktop Service to an enterprise AD system. Use an AD Connector to register an enterprise AD system with Elastic Desktop Service and synchronize AD account and permission information. |
Access and connectivity

| terminal | The physical hardware that end users use to connect to cloud computers. Examples: Windows PCs, macOS PCs, mobile phones, and tablets. |
| Alibaba Cloud Workspace terminal | An application or a channel from which cloud computers can be connected. In Elastic Desktop Service, the application is Alibaba Cloud Workspace. Available clients include Windows, iOS, Android, macOS, and web clients. Examples: ：Windows client、macOS client、web client、iOS client、Android client、23.8-inch Alibaba Cloud Workspace All-In-One Terminal and Alibaba Cloud Workspace Terminal。 |

A session refers to an end user connecting through Alibaba Cloud Workspace to WUYING services (（Elastic Desktop Service、App Streaming and Alibaba Cloud Drive）established。 |
