After scanning peripheral drivers by using the Alibaba Cloud Workspace Deployment Tool and uploading them to your enterprise driver library, you can use an online image builder to bundle them into an image and deploy them at scale via image distribution.

Create an image using the online builder

You can use the online image builder to create custom workspace images in an intuitive way.

Note

This feature is available for invitational preview. To use this feature, submit a ticket to request access.

Prerequisites

You can use the online builder to create a custom image only if all the following conditions are met:

  • The base image runs Windows Server 2019 or Windows Server 2022.

  • The version of the base image is V2.3.0 or later.

  • The status of the base image is Active.

  • The selected region is one of the following:

    If you want to use this feature in other regions, you must first add one of the following regions to the list of available regions for the image. For more information, see Configure image regions (New).

    • China (Beijing)

    • China (Shanghai)

    • China (Hangzhou)

    • China (Shenzhen)

    • China (Zhangjiakou)

    • China (Hong Kong)

    • Singapore

    • Germany (Frankfurt)

    • US (Silicon Valley)

Step 1: Configure the online builder

  1. Log on to the Elastic Desktop Service Enterprise console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Images Center > Images.

  3. On the Images page, click Create Image.

  4. In the Create Image panel, click the Custom Image (Beta) tab.

  5. On the Fill in Basic Information tab, enter the following information and click Next.

    The name must be 2 to 64 characters in length. Each Chinese character is counted as 3 characters. The name can contain Chinese characters, letters, digits, colons (:), underscores (_), and hyphens (-). It must start with a Chinese character or a letter and cannot start with http:// or https://.

    Image type options:

    • Custom Image

    • OS Image

    You can select an OS image. If you have created custom images, you can also select a custom image.

    You can select an initialization language only for an OS image. This feature is not supported for custom images. Options:

  6. On the Configure Online Builder tab, enter the following information and click Next.

    • System disk (required): The storage capacity can range from 40 GiB to 500 GiB, with a step size of 10 GiB. The capacity cannot be smaller than that of the selected base image.

    • Data disk (optional): The storage capacity can range from 40 GiB to 500 GiB, with a step size of 10 GiB. The capacity cannot be smaller than that of the base image. You can set the capacity to 0.

    Upload File

    No

    Upload the application installation packages or file packages that you want to install on the workspace. The uploaded files will be placed on the desktop of the online builder.

    • If a single file is smaller than 5 GiB, select Local Upload. If it is 5 GiB or larger, select OSS Link.

    • There is no limit on the file type.

    • You can upload up to 5 files.

  7. (Optional) On the Install Peripheral Drivers (Optional) tab, select the drivers to install in the image from the WUYING Driver Library or Enterprise Driver Library and click Next.

    Note
    • Currently, you can install peripheral and printer drivers only for Windows images. This feature is not supported for other operating systems.

    • You can select up to 20 drivers.

  8. On the Confirm Information tab, check whether the information is correct. If the information is incorrect, click Modify. If the information is correct, click Confirm and Create.

    • The online builder opens in a new page. The environment preparation may take a few minutes. You must complete the entire image creation process on this page.

      Note
      • The image creation environment is retained for only a few hours. Plan your creation process accordingly. If a timeout occurs, the image creation process fails.

      • The region for image creation is related to the region of the selected base image. To add other available regions, you can configure the image regions after the image is created. For more information, see Configure image regions (New).

    • If the online builder page does not appear, check whether it is blocked by your browser.

    • If you accidentally close the online builder page during image creation, go to the Image Center > Images page, and click Continue Creation in the Status column to reopen the online builder page.

Step 2: Create and publish the image

Follow these steps to create and publish the custom image in the online builder on the new page.

Text-based tutorial

  1. In the Preparing Environment step, wait for the preparation to complete. Then, a guide dialog box appears. In the dialog box, click Start Creation.

  2. In the Creating Image step, you can install applications, pre-store files, modify the registry, and perform other operations as needed. Then, click Next.

    Note

    The files you uploaded when you configured the online builder are displayed on the desktop of the creation environment. To add more files, such as application installation packages, click the floating ball on the desktop and select Upload.

  3. In the Configuration dialog box, on the Configure Image tab, you can select a wallpaper and desktop shortcuts for the custom image. After you complete the settings, click Next.

  4. On the Peripheral Driver Installation Result tab, you can view the installation results of the peripheral drivers. After you confirm the results, click Next.

  5. On the Check and Test tab, review the listed file directories and registry directories. These items are temporarily generated in the creation environment and will not be retained in the final image. After you finish checking, click Test Now.

  6. The preparation of the test and validation environment usually takes 1 to 5 minutes. Wait for the process to complete.

  7. After the test environment is ready, click Retest in the Please Test the Image dialog box.

  8. Thoroughly test the image you created in the test environment. After the test is complete, click Test Passed, and then click Confirm in the dialog box.

  9. In the Please Test the Image dialog box, click Go to Publish. In the Do you want to publish now? dialog box, select the available regions for the image, and then click Publish Now.

  10. In the confirmation dialog box, click Go Now to return to the WUYING Workspace Enterprise Edition console to view the progress and result of the image publication.
