ECS image compatibility

No. A cloud computer can use only the system images, shared images, and custom images provided by Elastic Desktop Service.

Supported operating systems

By default, system images for cloud computers support the following operating systems:

  • Windows 11 Pro, Windows 10 Pro, Windows Server 2019, Windows Server 2022, Ubuntu 22.04, and Kylin V10.

    Restriction: You cannot create cloud computers that use the Kylin V10 operating system in regions outside the Chinese mainland.

Changing a cloud computer image

Yes, you can change the image of a cloud computer. For more information, see Change the image of a cloud computer or an image shared by cloud computers.

Updating a cloud computer image

Some cloud computer features depend on the image version. We recommend that you update your images promptly.

Note
  • Before you update an image, create a snapshot of your cloud computer to prevent data loss.

  • An image update takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes. During this time, you cannot connect to or use the cloud computer.

Administrator update

  1. Log on to the Elastic Desktop Service console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Image Center > Image Updates.

  3. On the Image page, find the target update version in the update task list.

  4. In the Actions column, click Query Involved Cloud Computer and Progress.

  5. In the Query Involved Cloud Computer and Progress panel, choose one of the following methods to update the image:

    • Update the image for a single cloud computer

      1. Find the cloud computer that you want to update and click Upgrade in the Actions column.

      2. In the Upgrade dialog box, read the notes, select an update method, and then follow the on-screen instructions.

        Note

        The system automatically restarts the cloud computer during the update. After the update is complete, the cloud computer returns to its pre-update state.

    • Update images for multiple cloud computers

      1. Select the cloud computers that you want to update and click Immediate/Schedule Update at the bottom of the list.

      2. In the Upgrade dialog box, read the notes, select an update method, and then follow the on-screen instructions.

        Note

        The system automatically restarts the cloud computer during the update. After the update is complete, the cloud computer returns to its pre-update state.

End user update

  1. On the card for the cloud computer that you want to update, click Update.

  2. In the dialog box that appears, choose when to update:

    • To update immediately, select Update Now and select a post-update status from the Status After Update drop-down list: Keep Current Status, Stopped, Running, or Hibernation.

    • To schedule the update for a later time, select Scheduled Update and select a time from the Select Execution Time drop-down list, such as In 4 Hours, In 8 Hours, or In 12 Hours.

  3. Click OK.

  4. In the Update Successful dialog box, click Understood.

    • If you cannot connect to the cloud computer after the update or want to revert to the pre-update state, click Manage on the cloud computer card, choose , and then click Restore. Select the system disk or data disk to restore and click Confirm Restore. You can also contact your administrator for help.

    • If the update fails, retry or contact your administrator.

Custom image creation time

You can create a custom image from an existing cloud computer. The process takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the amount of data on the cloud computer.

Troubleshooting custom image creation failures

The following table describes possible causes for custom image creation failures and their solutions.

Cause

Solution

If software installed on the source cloud computer, such as an antivirus application, disables the Elastic Desktop Service agent during image creation, the process will fail.

Uninstall the conflicting software from the cloud computer and try creating the custom image again.

During custom image creation, an administrator changes the source cloud computer's image, which causes the creation to fail.

Do not change the source cloud computer's image during custom image creation.

During the custom image creation process, an administrator deletes the source cloud computer, which causes the creation to fail.

Do not delete the source cloud computer during custom image creation.
