Alibaba Cloud Workspace lets you distribute applications to end users across your organization — centrally managing which apps are available, who can access them, and how they're installed on cloud computers. With this feature, you can eliminate manual per-device deployments and control application access from a single console.

When the application feature is enabled, available apps appear in the Application Center on each end user's cloud computer. End users install apps directly from there.

Application types

Alibaba Cloud Workspace supports two application types:

TypeSourceSetup required
Free applicationsProvided by Alibaba Cloud with Independent Software Vendor (ISV) authorization, or directly by ISVsNone — assign directly to end users
Self-managed applicationsUploaded manually by your organization via the Elastic Desktop Service (EDS) Enterprise consoleUpload first, then assign to end users
  • Paid applications: These applications are provided by ISVs. An administrator must acquire licenses for these applications before assigning them to end users.

How application distribution works

Prerequisites

Before distributing applications, make sure you have:

  • The application feature enabled in Alibaba Cloud Workspace

  • Access to the EDS Enterprise console (for uploading self-managed applications)

Distribution workflow

Follow these steps to make applications available to end users:

After you purchase and assign paid applications in the WUYING Workspace console, end users can download, install, and use them from the WUYING App Center on their cloud computers. The following figure shows the basic flow for using paid applications.

image
  1. Upload self-managed applications (if free applications don't meet your needs). Upload your application packages through the EDS Enterprise console. For details, see Manage self-managed applications.

Purchase paid applications or upload your own applications.

If free applications do not meet your business requirements, you can purchase paid applications or upload your own applications in the WUYING Workspace console. For more information, see Purchase applications or Upload your own applications.

  2. Assign applications to end users. By default, all end users have permission to download and install applications. To restrict access to specific users, configure assignment permissions. For details, see Assign and install an application.

  3. End users install applications from Application Center. End users open Application Center on their cloud computers and download and install applications directly from there.
