This topic describes how to resolve common account or password errors that occur when you clone using HTTPS.
What should you do if you encounter an account or password error when cloning a repository over HTTPS?
Obtain the correct account information and password
For more information, see Configure an HTTPS password.
If you use a Mac, check your local keychain after you obtain your account information.
Why is an error still reported when the provided clone account and password are correct?
The Keychain feature on macOS saves your account passwords by default. If you update a password, the system may continue to use the old password stored in the keychain. This causes authentication to fail. To resolve this issue, check the account information in your Keychain, clear the old credential, and then try to authenticate again.
Mac
On your Mac, open System Preferences.
In the System Preferences window, click iCloud.
In the iCloud settings, find the Keychain option.
In Keychain, find and clear the old password records for the clone account.
Windows
Windows does not have a Keychain feature. However, you can use Credential Manager for similar secure password storage. Follow these steps:
Press
Win + Sand search forControl Panel. Open the Control Panel and search forCredential Manager. Select Manage Windows Credentials or Manage Web Credentials.Edit or delete a credential: In the list of credentials, select an entry and click
EditorDelete.
