Knowledge base
A knowledge base is a central repository for your organization's knowledge. Understanding and creating one is the first step to using Alibaba Cloud DevOps. This topic introduces the basic concepts of a knowledge base.
To get started with Alibaba Cloud DevOps Thoughts, create a knowledge base for your team, department, or project. A knowledge base provides a dedicated space to store and share knowledge. Its structured hierarchy and powerful search capabilities help you organize and use information efficiently.
The Alibaba Cloud DevOps Thoughts home page displays your starred knowledge bases and all knowledge bases in a card view. In the left sidebar, you can switch between categories such as knowledge base, favorites, and recent. The search bar at the top lets you quickly find content.
Knowledge base visibility
Knowledge bases have two visibility settings: an organization knowledge base, which is accessible to all organization members, and a private knowledge base, which only its members can access and edit.
A knowledge base can serve different roles depending on the use case. It can be a team's practical guide, a department's work manual, or a project's repository of deliverables. Any reusable content can be stored and reused in a knowledge base.
Create a knowledge base
In the Complete Knowledge Base Info dialog box, select a template from the Template Content area on the left. Then, in the Basic Information section on the right, enter a Name and Description, set the Visibility, and click Create.
Knowledge base home page
The top of the knowledge base home page displays the product icon, title, member avatars, and a Published status label. The directory tree on the left lists items including Overview, Enterprise Space, knowledge base, online document, permissions, Teambition Integration, More Features, Boundary Value Summary, and Changelog. The main content area contains a Pinned Content section with cards for "What is Thoughts?", "Teambition Integration", and "Permissions"; a Knowledge Base Templates section offering templates for Meeting Minutes, Product Requirements Document, Project Plan, and Project Summary; and a Document Stats section with Recent Updates and Most Popular tabs. The bottom-left corner displays department and member count statistics.
Content objects
A knowledge base contains three main types of objects:
-
Online document:
-
An online document is the primary format for knowledge in a knowledge base. Think of it as a collaborative online Word document. It is highly structured, can be interconnected to create a web of information, and also hosts rich, dynamic content.
-
Online documents are organized in a tree-like directory. You can create new documents under any existing document.
-
-
File: In addition to creating online documents, you can directly upload existing files. You can upload and preview text-based files such as Microsoft Office documents, PDFs, and TXT files.
-
Folder: A folder groups content. It can contain subfolders, online documents, and files.
Member management
Collaboration is key to knowledge contribution and maintenance. You can manage member permissions in a knowledge base. For more details, see Knowledge Base Visibility and Permissions.
