What is an app
In BatchCompute, an app is a resource configuration template. It specifies the image, instance type, and number of virtual machines (VMs). The image contains the program or algorithm for a job. To submit a job using an app, you only need to specify the input data and output path. You do not need to manage resource configurations or program details.
- How it works
- Create an app: To create an app, install the required software or scripts on a custom image. Then, set the default resource configurations and the input and output formats.
- Submit an app job: When a job is submitted, a virtual machine image or Docker image starts based on the resource configuration. The software or script runs using the user-provided data. The output is then stored in the specified persistent storage.
- Execution environment
- Image type: Apps allow you to highly customize the execution environment using custom virtual machine (VM) images or Docker images.
- Operating system: Apps support Windows and Linux operating systems.
- Persistent storage
- Currently, apps support Object Storage Service (OSS) for persistent storage of input and output data. Support for NAS will be added in a future release.
- Your programs, custom Docker images, and job operational logs are stored in OSS.
- App categories
- Public app: Public apps are provided by BatchCompute and deployed in each region. They are visible to all users in a region, and any user can submit jobs using them.
- Private app: Private apps are created by you. Only you, the creator, can view them. You can also delete, modify, and submit jobs using your private apps.
