Cloud migration tool support
For the cloud migration scenarios described previously, enterprises can use Alibaba Cloud's self-developed Cloud Migration Hub (CMH) to guide the entire migration project. CMH is a migration assistance product that provides features for the full lifecycle of cloud migration, including cloud architecture discovery and planning, landing zone creation, application migration analysis, and implementation assistance. CMH provides the most direct path for enterprise cloud migration.
Cloud architecture and resource planning
Cloud Migration Hub provides comprehensive capabilities for cloud architecture and resource planning. It performs a complete, thorough, and efficient assessment of your source systems. The main features are described as follows:
Discovery and mapping: CMH provides online resource discovery for other cloud services and offline resource discovery for data centers. It also offers dynamic questionnaires for various scenarios. It supports major distributions of Windows and Linux. It identifies resource types and recommends mappings to basic Alibaba Cloud services.
Feasibility and risk assessment: CMH integrates the Alibaba Cloud migration best practices knowledge base. It provides information about migration difficulty, important notes, and common risks based on different migration products, scales, and conditions.
Enterprise cloud migration cost assessment: CMH uses product mappings and the Alibaba Cloud pricing center to help you quickly assess the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of your cloud migration. It clearly shows the cost changes that result from migrating to the cloud.
Build a landing zone
Cloud Migration Hub works with Cloud Governance Center to provide one-click creation of a basic landing zone. This includes the following features:
Single-account configuration: To meet the needs of users migrating a single account, CMH calls the single-account initialization feature of Cloud Governance Center. This builds a single account with basic audit logs and protection rules. It also creates and grants permissions to Resource Access Management (RAM) users based on your migration scenario.
Multi-account configuration: To help customers establish a secure and compliant multi-account environment, CMH calls the multi-account initialization feature of Cloud Governance Center. This builds a multi-account system with features such as a resource structure, billing relationships, unified identity and access management, and compliance audits.
Application migration planning
Cloud Migration Hub provides extensive discovery capabilities to assist with enterprise application migration planning. These capabilities include topology analysis, product mapping, performance analysis, and traffic lineage. The main features are described as follows:
System discovery: CMH uses non-intrusive agent technology to quickly discover your systems. It gathers information such as workloads, system capacity, network traffic, and running processes. It also provides data export and audit features to meet data security requirements.
Data analytics: CMH provides cloud system analysis capabilities. It builds a system topology and uses traffic lineage to show the call chains between systems. It also identifies system resource usage and process names to help you select the appropriate Alibaba Cloud service types and specifications.
Solution recommendations: Based on the collected data and analysis, CMH uses the system topology to help you create migration batches and build a migration plan. Based on the mapping between source and destination products, it recommends standard, atomic migration solutions.
Automated cloud migration
Cloud Migration Hub provides many automation features to implement your cloud migration. It helps you create resource instances, create migration tasks, and schedule migration tasks to ensure an efficient migration. The main features are described as follows:
Resource instance creation: CMH uses the cloud product type and specification mappings generated during the initial discovery phase. It uses built-in transformation logic to generate Infrastructure as Code (IaC). It then integrates with the automation console to perform batch resource creation.
Migration task creation: CMH uses the source and destination relationships established earlier. It calls standard cloud migration products, such as Server Migration Center (SMC) and Data Transmission Service (DTS), to generate batch migration tasks.
Migration task scheduling: To make efficient use of your cloud migration resources, such as leased lines, VPNs, and the read/write bandwidth of source servers, CMH provides 24/7 managed scheduling. It uses a pre-orchestrated task scheduling plan to manage the execution of migration tasks and ensure their efficient completion.
