Line types
CDT Internet traffic supports two line types: BGP (Multi-ISP) and BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro.

CDT Internet traffic prices
CDT Internet traffic uses tiered pricing based on cumulative usage. Usage from multiple services is aggregated and billed by region. Total cost equals the sum of each tier's usage multiplied by its unit price.
Prices for BGP (Multi-ISP) Internet traffic
Effective 00:00:00 on June 1, 2025 , the free quota for CDT Internet traffic increases from 200 GB/month to 220 GB/month. Of this, 20 GB/month can be used in the Chinese mainland, and 200 GB/month can be used outside the Chinese mainland.
The first 220 GB per month is free: 20 GB for the Chinese mainland and 200 GB for regions outside. Excess traffic is billed starting from the first tier.
The CDT free quota is provided at the account level, not allocated per cloud product instance. For example, assume that you only have ECS instances. BGP outbound Internet traffic from all pay-by-data-transfer VPC-type ECS instances under the same account is aggregated and shares a single CDT free quota.
Free quota breakdown: 20 GB/month for the Chinese mainland regions + 200 GB/month for regions outside the Chinese mainland = 220 GB/month total.
Quota ownership and refresh time: The free quota is calculated at the Alibaba Cloud account level, not at the real-name identity level, so each account under the same entity gets its own free quota. The free quota refreshes at 00:00 on the 1st of each calendar month and does not roll over to the next month.
Billable traffic direction: The 220 GB free quota applies only to outbound traffic (data sent to the Internet). Inbound traffic is never billed and does not consume the free quota.
Applicable billing mode: The free quota applies only to BGP (Multi-ISP) Internet traffic generated by pay-by-data-transfer instances. Pay-by-bandwidth billing modes (pay-by-bandwidth ECS, EIP, or Internet Shared Bandwidth) are prepaid and are not billed by CDT, so they cannot use the free quota. If you switch an instance from pay-by-bandwidth to pay-by-data-transfer, the free quota takes effect starting from the following month.
Product support differences: Internet traffic generated by Function Compute and API Gateway cannot currently be deducted by Data Transfer Plans, but is still eligible for the CDT free quota (note when billing eligibility takes effect for the instance).
Products eligible for CDT free quota deduction include Elastic Compute Service (ECS), Elastic IP Address (EIP), and Classic Load Balancer (CLB), etc.

. can be used to deduct traffic that is generated by pay-by-data-transfer ECS, EIP, CLB, and Internet Shared Bandwidth instances. They cannot be used to deduct Internet traffic generated by FC.

Prices for BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro Internet traffic
Only BGP (Multi-ISP) Internet traffic has a free quota. BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro does not.
BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro traffic cannot be offset by Shared data transfer plans or CDT resource plans.

FAQ
Why did I receive a CDT free quota exhaustion alert or see unexpected charges?
What the alert means: The alert indicates that your free quota for the current month—20 GB for the Chinese mainland or 200 GB for regions outside the Chinese mainland—has been used up. Any traffic beyond the free quota is billed starting from the first tier at the corresponding tiered unit price.
Resource plan exhaustion: If you have purchased a CDT resource plan or a Data Transfer Plan, once the plan is used up, billing automatically switches to pay-as-you-go deduction from your account balance, which can make the cost increase more noticeable. You can check your resource plan balance and deduction status in the Expenses and Costs console.
Data Transfer Plan deduction scope: A Data Transfer Plan can deduct only traffic in the first tier of CDT (0 to 10 TB), and it does not support Function Compute or API Gateway. For the full list of supported products, see What is a Data Transfer Plan?
In what scenarios do ECS or EIP not incur CDT Internet traffic fees?
Within the free quota: For a pay-by-data-transfer BGP (Multi-ISP) instance, no fee is charged as long as monthly outbound traffic stays within 20 GB for the Chinese mainland or 200 GB for regions outside the Chinese mainland.
Pay-by-bandwidth mode: If you choose pay-by-bandwidth billing when purchasing ECS, EIP, or Internet Shared Bandwidth, you have already paid for the bandwidth, so CDT does not charge for the traffic again.
Inbound traffic: Inbound traffic (data received from the Internet) is never billed, regardless of quota or billing mode.
Converting from an ECS public IP to an EIP: After converting the public IP address of an ECS instance to an EIP, you can continue to use the 20 GB free quota for the Chinese mainland as long as the EIP remains pay-by-data-transfer and uses the BGP (Multi-ISP) line. Note that an EIP that is not bound to an instance incurs an IP retention fee, which is a separate charge and is not a CDT traffic fee.
