Create a trial service instance

Before committing to a subscription, you can create a trial service instance to evaluate a service at no cost. A trial service instance provides most of the features of a service instance. Trial service instances are retained for a limited period and are automatically deleted when the retention period ends — do not use them for production workloads.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure that you have:

  • A Compute Nest account with access to the Compute Nest console

  • A service in the Service Catalog for which the service provider has enabled the free trial option

Create a trial service instance

The procedure for creating a trial service instance is the same as that for creating a service instance.

  1. Log on to the Compute Nest console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, click Service Catalog.

  3. Find the service you want to evaluate and click View Details.

  4. On the service details page, click Free Trial.

  5. On the Create Free Trial Service Instance page, configure the parameters as prompted.

    • VPC access (optional — only if the service supports PrivateLink): To access the service from a virtual private cloud (VPC) using PrivateLink, select VPC Access in the Network Settings section, then configure the VPC, Security Group ID, and Zone and vSwitch parameters in the VPC Information section.

    • Custom domain name (optional): To use the service provider's recommended custom domain name, select Use the recommended custom domain name.

Using a custom domain name incurs charges based on Alibaba Cloud DNS PrivateZone billing. Without a custom domain name, you can access the service using the endpoint's domain name or IP address via PrivateLink.

  6. Click Next: Confirm Order.

  7. Review the order information, select I have read and agree to Compute Nest Terms of Service, and click Start Free Trial.

After the trial service instance is created, the console displays the service instance details page where you can view the instance status and configuration.

View a trial service instance

  1. Log on to the Compute Nest console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, click Service Instance.

  3. On the My Service Instance tab, click the Trial Service sub-tab.

  4. Click the ID of the instance you want to view.

  5. On the instance details page, use the following tabs to view information and manage the instance:

    Tab What you can do
Overview View the service resource overview, basic instance information, service information, and configurations
Resource ID View resources and pods; connect to a resource, diagnose its health status, or run commands on it
Monitoring View monitoring details for resources. On the Monitoring tab, select the Elastic Compute Service (ECS) sub-tab. Use the time range selector and the Group filter to view monitoring line charts for metrics such as CPUUtilization (%), MemoryUtilization (%), and average load (cost), which display resource usage trends over a specified time period.
Logs Use CloudOps Orchestration Service (OOS) to manage resources — send remote commands, upload files, clean up disks, and perform auto scaling
O&M Items View O&M operations on the instance; items can be in unfinished, in processing, or pending states
Logs View operation logs for resources and deployment logs for the service instance

Access a trial service instance using PrivateLink

If the service supports PrivateLink, use one of the following methods to access it after creation:

  • Endpoint domain name: Use the domain name of the endpoint directly.

  • Custom domain name: If a custom domain name is configured for the service, use it to access the endpoint.

  • Endpoint IP address: Use the IP address of the endpoint.
