When your subscription is about to expire, you can renew it to extend its service period. If you do not renew the subscription in time, the service may be suspended or its resources may be released. This topic describes the expiration policies for subscription products and how to renew them.
Limitations
The expiration and renewal policies described in this topic apply only to subscriptions, not to pay-as-you-go resources.
Only users with both the AliyunDataWorksFullAccess and AliyunBSSOrderAccess permission policies can renew subscriptions.
Expiration policies
After a subscription expires, its service may be suspended or its resources may be released. The following table describes the policies for different products.
Product type | Expiration notification | Service suspension policy | Release policy |
DataWorks Standard Edition, Professional Edition, and Enterprise Edition | Expiration notifications are sent to the mobile phone, email, and Message Center associated with your Alibaba Cloud account on the 7th, 3rd, and 1st day before the expiration date. | If you do not renew the subscription before it expires, the paid features of these editions are immediately suspended upon expiration, and the service is downgraded to Basic Edition. Note For more information, see Feature changes after downgrading DataWorks paid editions.
DataWorks intelligent data modeling | If you do not renew the subscription, the service is immediately suspended upon expiration. Models that you created are not deleted. To continue using the service, you must renew your subscription.
serverless resource group (subscription) | If you do not renew the subscription before it expires, the service for the resources in your order is immediately suspended upon expiration. |

Data retention and recovery after expiration
The following describes how data is retained and how services can be recovered after different DataWorks products expire:
DataWorks Standard Edition, Professional Edition, and Enterprise Edition: After expiration, the service is automatically downgraded to Basic Edition. Your code, tasks, and other core data are not deleted. To restore premium features, purchase the corresponding paid edition again. For more information about feature changes after a downgrade, see Feature changes after downgrading DataWorks paid editions.
Serverless resource groups and exclusive resource groups: After expiration, the instance is retained for 7 days. If you renew or repurchase within 7 days, the service is restored and your configurations are preserved. If the 7-day retention period elapses without renewal, the instance is released and all resource group configurations are lost. You must create a new resource group.
DataWorks intelligent data modeling: After expiration, all model data is permanently retained and is not deleted. Renew your subscription to resume using the service.
Underlying storage engine data (such as MaxCompute): DataWorks serves as a development and scheduling platform and does not store business data. The data retention policies of underlying storage engines such as MaxCompute are independent of DataWorks. For example, MaxCompute projects are released 15 days after the account becomes overdue. The expiration of DataWorks does not affect data in underlying storage engines.

Procedure
Failure to renew a resource group subscription on time will lead to service suspension. After a renewal is complete, it takes about 30 minutes for the system to validate and restore the status of the resource group. To ensure service continuity, renew your subscription well before it expires. Follow these steps to renew your subscription:
Log on to the DataWorks console. In the target region, click Resource Group in the left-side navigation pane to open the resource group list.
Find the resource group that you want to renew. In the Actions column, click the
icon and select Renew. On the Renew page, select a billing cycle and select the Service Agreement checkbox.
Click Buy Now to complete the payment. After the renewal is successful, you can continue to use the related products.
NoteYou can also manage automatic renewals for your subscriptions in the Expenses and Costs center.
FAQ
What do I do if I cannot find the instance from the renewal notification in the console?
If you receive a renewal notification but cannot locate the corresponding instance in the DataWorks console, the possible causes are:
The instance has been released: If the instance exceeded the retention period after expiration, it was automatically released and is no longer displayed in the console. You must purchase a new instance.
Incorrect region: DataWorks displays instances by region. Make sure you have switched to the correct region in the console.
Solution: Go to the Manual Renewal page in the Alibaba Cloud Billing Management console to view and manage all instances pending renewal across all regions and products.
Why am I being charged subscription auto-renewal fees for a pay-as-you-go instance?
If your current instance uses pay-as-you-go billing but you see subscription auto-renewal charges on your bill, the likely cause is that your account previously purchased a DataWorks subscription edition (including the free Basic Edition promotion) and auto-renewal was enabled for it. The pay-as-you-go instance and the historical subscription order coexist under the same account.
Solution: To stop the auto-renewal charges, go to the Renewal Management page in the Alibaba Cloud Billing Management console and disable auto-renewal for the corresponding subscription instance.
