Disable or enable an instance

As an administrator or DBA, you can disable an instance in Data Management Service (DMS) to prevent users from querying or changing it. After an instance is disabled, it can no longer be found or used in DMS. To restore access to a disabled instance, you can enable it. You can also view the reason an instance is disabled.

Prerequisites

You have the DBA or administrator system role. For more information, see View your system role.

Usage notes

  • After an instance is disabled, it becomes unavailable in DMS, no longer appears in searches, and is removed from the instance list on the homepage. However, the database instance itself continues to run normally and remains accessible from other services.

  • A disabled instance still uses quota for its control mode. If you no longer plan to use the instance in DMS, you can delete it to release the quota. For more information, see delete an instance.

Procedure

  1. Log in to DMS 5.0.

  2. Move the pointer over the 2023-01-28_15-57-17.png icon in the upper-left corner of the DMS console and choose All Features > Data Assets > Instances.

    Note

If you use the DMS console in normal mode, choose Data Assets > Instances in the top navigation bar.

  3. On the Instance List tab, disable or enable an instance, or view the reason an instance is disabled.

    • Disable an instance

Find the target instance. In the Actions column, choose More > disable instance, and then click Confirm.

    • View the reason an instance is disabled

      1. In the filter section, select Disabled from the Status drop-down list.

      2. Hover your cursor over Disabled in the Status column to view the reason.

        Note

An instance may be disabled due to an expired subscription for its control mode or for sensitive data protection.

    • Enable an instance

Filter for Disabled instances. Find the target instance. In the Actions column, choose More > enable instance, and then click Confirm.

      Note

Before you enable an instance, you must resolve the issue that caused it to be disabled. For example, if an instance was disabled due to insufficient quota for the security collaboration mode, you must adjust the control mode of the instance.

      • If you no longer need the security collaboration mode, edit the instance, set the control mode to flexible management (by not selecting any feature package), and then enable the instance.

      • If you still need the security collaboration mode, purchase a subscription for it. After the purchase is complete, edit the instance, set its control mode back to security collaboration mode, and then enable the instance.

To edit an instance, find it in the instance list, click More in the Actions column, and select edit instance.
