Cloud Config records each configuration change and relationship change of monitored resources and displays them in a configuration change history. After you activate Cloud Config, it starts recording resource configuration and relationship changes. By default, the data is retained for 10 years.

Background information

A configuration change history consists of configuration changes and relationship changes for a resource. The following table describes the elements in a configuration change history.

Element

Description

Points on a configuration change history

  • Start point: For resources that exist before you activate Cloud Config, the start point is the activation time. For resources created after activation, the start point is the resource creation time.

  • Node: Cloud Config checks resource configurations and relationships at 10-minute intervals. If the configuration or relationship differs from the previous check, Cloud Config generates a change record, which appears as a node on the configuration change history.

  • Breakpoint: If you remove a resource type from the monitoring scope of Cloud Config, Cloud Config stops monitoring resources of this type and no longer updates their configuration change histories.

Information of a node on a configuration change history

Each node on a configuration change history records a configuration change or a relationship change of the resource. The node contains one of the following types of information:

  • Resource configuration change: basic information, core configuration changes, associated resources, and corresponding ActionTrail events.

  • Resource relationship change: basic information, relationship changes, associated resources, and corresponding ActionTrail events.

Note

Cloud Config detects configuration and relationship changes at 10-minute intervals. If you change a resource's configuration or relationship and then revert it within the same 10-minute interval, Cloud Config cannot detect the change or display it on the configuration change history.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the Cloud Config console.

  2. Optional. In the upper-left corner, select an account group.

This operation is required only if you are using a management account of a resource directory. Otherwise, you do not need to perform the operation.

    • Filter: Filter by resource type, region, or resource status.

  5. Click the target resource ID link.
