Cloud Config monitors resource changes in your account, tracks configuration change history, and evaluates compliance in real time. You can configure the monitoring scope to specify which resource types are tracked.
Monitoring scope
After you enable Cloud Config, all supported resource types are automatically added to the monitoring scope.
- If you set the Monitoring Scope to Supported Resource Types, Cloud Config automatically adds newly supported resource types to the monitoring scope.
- If you set the Monitoring Scope to Custom Resource Types, you can select specific resource types to monitor. Only resources of the selected types are monitored.
Monitoring status
Resources in Cloud Config have the following monitoring statuses:
- Not monitored
- If a resource type is in the monitoring scope, you can view its resources in the resource list.
- If a resource type is removed from the monitoring scope, its resources are no longer displayed in the resource list. Cloud Config stops recording configuration changes for those resources, but the existing change history is retained.
- Monitoring If you re-add a previously removed resource type to the monitoring scope, its resources reappear in the resource list. Cloud Config resumes recording configuration changes, and the existing change history remains accessible.Note Cloud Config does not record configuration changes for resources whose type is outside the monitoring scope.
