Problem description

After you correctly configure the server information and use a third-party client to log on to Alibaba Mail, you cannot send or receive emails. You receive the following bounce email notifications:

Foxmail client

Host unknown.
An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

When you test the account settings, the following error message appears:

The requested name is valid and was found in the database, but it does not have the correct associated data to be parsed.

Outlook client

The server name you entered cannot be found on the network (the network might be temporarily unavailable). Please verify that you are online and that the server name is correct.
Outlook cannot connect to your incoming (POP3) email server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Problem cause

  • You configured the Alibaba Mail client to use your own domain name but did not add the required DNS records. As a result, the configuration does not take effect.

  • You configured the Alibaba Mail client to use the official Alibaba Mail domain name. However, the DNS server that is used by the client's local server cannot resolve the mail server's domain name. This causes the logon to fail.

Solution

If you configure the Alibaba Mail client to use your own domain name, you must add the corresponding DNS records. If you do not add these records, the configuration will not work. Alternatively, you can use the official Alibaba Mail service endpoint: smtp.qiye.aliyun.com. For more information, see Alibaba Mail domain name resolution.
