A burstable instance is an economical instance type designed for entry-level computing workloads that have burstable performance requirements. These instances use CPU credits to handle sudden performance spikes. You can also enable unlimited mode for sustained high performance. With configurations starting as low as 0.5 GiB of memory, they offer a flexible and cost-effective solution. This topic describes how to create a burstable instance.

Note

This topic focuses on the key parameters for creating a burstable instance in the ECS console. For information about all other parameters, see Create an instance by using the custom launch tab.

Procedure

  1. Go to the ECS instance buy page.

  2. Configure parameters such as the billing method, instance type, and image based on your requirements.

    Parameter

    Description

    Billing Method

The billing method determines the pricing and billing rules for the instance. Resource lifecycle rules also vary by billing method. Valid values:

    Region

The geographic location of the data center. Select a region that is close to your users to reduce network latency. You cannot change the region after an instance is created. For more information, see Regions and zones.

    Network and Zone

    • We recommend that you use a VPC. VPCs are logically isolated from each other for enhanced security. They also support features such as EIPs, ENIs, and IPv6.

    • A zone is a physical location within a region that has an independent power supply and network. Instances in the same zone have lower network latency, which results in faster user access.

    Instance

On the All specifications tab, in the Architecture row, click All Categories in the x86 column, select Shared, and then select a burstable instance type. Available instance types vary by region. You can view the available instance types in each region on the Instance types available for purchase page. For more information about burstable instance types, see Instance family.

You can select Enable Unlimited Mode for Burstable Instances when you create a burstable instance. You can also enable this mode after creating the instance. For more information, see Enable unlimited mode.

    Images

An image provides the information required to run an instance. Alibaba Cloud offers a variety of image sources. The supported images are listed on the page. For more information, see Images.

  3. Configure other settings, such as storage, bandwidth, security groups, and management settings.

For a detailed description of each parameter, see Parameter description.

  4. Before creating the instance, check the configuration summary in the right pane and configure options such as the subscription duration. Verify that the parameters meet your requirements.

  5. Read and agree to service agreements, such as the Confirm Order. Then, click Confirm Order.

    Note

When you purchase a Subscription instance, you must also read and agree to the ECS Refund Policies.

Creating an instance typically takes 3 to 5 minutes. You can go to the instance list page in the console to view the instance status. When the status changes to Running, the instance is created.
