Change the instance type of an expired subscription instance during renewal-Elastic Compute Service(ECS)-阿里云帮助中心

After a subscription instance expires, you can use the renewal with configuration change feature to change its instance type before it is automatically released. This allows you to upgrade or downgrade the instance type.

Use cases

This feature applies to a subscription instance that has expired but has not yet been automatically released. The renewal with configuration change feature allows you to upgrade or downgrade the instance type.

Note

If you receive an "insufficient inventory" message when you renew an instance, you can also use the renewal with configuration change feature.

To change the public bandwidth upon renewal, or to downgrade the instance type within 15 days before it expires, use the renewal with downgrade feature.

Renewal with configuration change

Change the instance type upon renewal. You can upgrade or downgrade the instance type.

Renewal with downgrade

Downgrade instance type: Downgrade the instance type within the same instance family. (This is only supported within 15 days before the instance expires.)
Change public bandwidth:
- If you use pay-by-bandwidth: Decrease the fixed bandwidth, or switch the billing method to pay-by-data-transfer and set a peak bandwidth.
- If you use pay-by-data-transfer: Modify the peak bandwidth.
Change data disk billing method: Switch from subscription to pay-as-you-go.

Usage notes

When using the renewal with configuration change feature, you may see migration-specific instance types. If you select one for a non-I/O-optimized instance, this changes it to an I/O-optimized instance. In this case, you must also select a new system disk type. The system disk must be an I/O-optimized type, such as an ultra disk, standard SSD, or ESSD.

Procedure

Go to ECS console - Instances.
In the upper-left corner of the page, select a region and resource group.
Click the ID or name of the target instance to open its details page. In the All Operations menu, select Renewal and Upgrade or Downgrade.
Configure the renewal settings.
1. Select an appropriate instance type.
  For information about supported instance type changes, see Limitations and self-check for instance type changes.
2. Select a renewal duration.
  The available renewal durations are displayed on the Renewal and Upgrade or Downgrade page.
3. Optional: Enable auto-renewal.
4. Read and accept the ECS Service Terms.
Click Confirm Order and complete the payment.

Results

After the renewal with configuration change is complete, the instance automatically restarts and enters a new billing cycle. The new instance type takes effect immediately.
