This topic provides answers to some frequently asked questions (FAQ) about acceleration areas of Global Accelerator (GA).

Can I use GA if the client resides in a region that is not supported by GA?

Yes. Global Accelerator (GA) allows clients to connect to the Alibaba Cloud acceleration network through the nearest access point.

  • If the accelerated IP address is an EIP: When you configure an acceleration region, select the region closest to your clients. Client traffic can enter the Alibaba Cloud acceleration network from that acceleration region by using the accelerated IP address or CNAME.

  • If the accelerated IP address is an Anycast EIP: You do not need to configure an acceleration region. GA provides a unified IP entry point across multiple regions worldwide. Clients can connect to the Alibaba Cloud acceleration network from the nearest access point by using the Anycast EIP or CNAME.

After I configure a CNAME record, why does it fail to take effect?

You can modify DNS resolution settings to map the domain name of the backend service to the CNAME of the GA instance. When a client accesses the backend service by using the domain name, GA resolves the domain name to an accelerated IP address based on the region of the client.

Note
  • To return resolution results based on the client's region, upgrade Alibaba Cloud DNS to Enterprise Standard Edition or Enterprise Ultimate Edition. For details, see the Upgrade section. After upgrading, change the default resolution line of any existing A record to a regional line and add a CNAME record pointing to the GA CNAME address.

  • If the endpoint's backend service type is a custom domain name, propagation time depends on two TTL values: the DNS server TTL (set when you configure the record) and the GA cache TTL (GA refreshes DNS records every 15 seconds by default).

If the CNAME record that you configure for an accelerated domain name fails to take effect, you can check the acceleration regions.

  • If all acceleration regions are in the Chinese mainland, the CNAME record takes effect only in the Chinese mainland.

  • If all acceleration regions are outside the Chinese mainland excluding China (Hong Kong), the CNAME record takes effect only outside the Chinese mainland.

  • If the acceleration regions include China (Hong Kong), the CNAME records take effect worldwide.

Is access from IPv4 clients accelerated if I configure IPv6 for the acceleration area of a GA instance?

No.

If IPv6 is configured for the acceleration area of a GA instance, only IPv6 clients can connect to the GA instance for accelerated access to backend services.

Why is an error returned when I modify the bandwidth of an acceleration area?

Issue

One of the following errors is returned when you modify the bandwidth of an acceleration area:

  • The error message The state of the accelerated instance is invalid. is returned with the error code StateError.Accelerator.

  • The error message bandwidthPackage state finacialLocked is illegal is returned with the error code StateError.Accelerator.

Cause

After a subscription GA instance or the basic bandwidth plan associated with a GA instance expires, you cannot modify the bandwidth of an acceleration area.

Solution

Check whether your subscription GA instance or the basic bandwidth plan associated with your GA instance has expired. If yes, you cannot perform operations on the subscription GA instance.

If your subscription GA instance has expired, you can perform one of the following operations:

  • Renew the subscription GA instance.

  • Purchase and configure a new GA instance. For more information, see Getting started.

If your basic bandwidth plan has expired, you can perform one of the following operations:
