Transcoding

Billing rules

Rule details

Billing rule

The total transcoding fee is the sum of fees for all output formats. Billing is based on the specifications and duration of the output file. Durations less than 1 minute are billed by the second.

Billing method

  • Pay-as-you-go: The transcoding fee for a single format = Output file duration (in minutes) × Unit price for the format.

  • Resource plan: For more information, see General transcoding duration plans.

Billing cycle

Billing is hourly. Alibaba Cloud measures your service usage from the previous billing cycle and generates a bill in the next cycle. The actual bill generation time may vary.

Billing specifications

The output specification is determined by the long and short sides of the output video's resolution. For example, for an output of SD (1280 × 720) or lower, the output video is classified as SD if its long side is 1280 pixels or less and its short side is 720 pixels or less. If either the long side exceeds 1280 pixels or the short side exceeds 720 pixels, the video is classified as a higher specification.

Billing example

Assume that you transcode a video in the Chinese mainland between 8:00 and 9:00. The source video uses H.264 encoding and is 200 minutes long. You perform both standard transcoding and Narrowband HD 1.0 transcoding. The output resolution for standard transcoding is LD (640 × 480), and the output resolution for Narrowband HD 1.0 transcoding is SD (1280 × 720). The transcoding bill for the period from 8:00 to 9:00 is calculated as follows: 200 minutes × CNY 0.0217/minute + 200 minutes × CNY 0.0977/minute = CNY 23.88.

Billing rules

Rule description

Billing rule

When you apply audio enhancement or video enhancement to media files, you are charged based on the audio enhancement type and video enhancement output specifications (for audio enhancement, durations of less than one minute are billed as one minute). If a file fails to be processed, no fees are charged.

Billing cycle

Bills are generated hourly, typically one hour after the current billing cycle ends. The actual bill generation time may vary. Fees are automatically deducted after the bill is generated.

Billing method

Pay-as-you-go: The total fee is the sum of the transcoding fees for all formats. The fee for each format is the duration of the output file (rounded up to the nearest minute) multiplied by the unit price for that format.

Pricing

The following table lists the billable items and prices for audio and video enhancement in the Chinese mainland.

Note

Super Resolution Professional Edition typically includes comprehensive capabilities such as super resolution and restoration, and is used in post-production scenarios. Services such as super resolution require custom algorithm tuning based on the source footage and desired results.

Billing example

Assume that you are in the Chinese mainland. You use Super Resolution Standard Edition to process a 200-minute video. The source video has a resolution of SD (1280 × 720) and a frame rate of 25 fps. The output is transcoded to H.264 with a resolution of HD (1920 × 1080). The fee is calculated as follows: 200 minutes × 60 seconds/minute × 25 frames/second × CNY 0.003255/frame = CNY 976.5.

Transcoding plugin billing

When you call an API to process a media asset, you are billed based on the number of requests. No fee is charged for failed calls.

  • Billing rule: Billing is based on the number of API requests.

  • Billing cycle: Alibaba Cloud measures your service usage from the previous 6-hour billing cycle and generates a bill in the next 6-hour cycle. The actual bill generation time may vary.

  • Billable items and prices:

    Request type

    Price

    Metadata (SubmitMediaInfoJob)

    CNY 0.10/1,000 requests

Watermark (Output containing Watermarks in SubmitJobs)

    CNY 0.10/1,000 requests

    Snapshot (SubmitSnapshotJob)

    CNY 0.10/1,000 snapshots

  • Billing example:

Assume that a user in the Chinese mainland successfully calls the SubmitMediaInfoJob API 1,000 times. The resulting fee is calculated as follows: 1,000 requests × CNY 0.10/1,000 requests = CNY 0.10.
