Upgrade versions
Vector Retrieval Service for Milvus (Milvus) versions are classified as major versions and minor versions. Major version upgrades (for example, from 2.4 to 2.5) introduce significant features or enhancements. Minor version upgrades (for example, from 2.4.0 to 2.4.1) focus on optimization, performance improvements, and bug fixes.
The version upgrade feature supports only minor version upgrades. Direct major version upgrades are not supported. To upgrade the major version, use data migration. For more information, see Migrate data between Milvus instances.
Prerequisite
You must have a Milvus instance. For more information, see Create a Milvus instance.
Limitation
The instance must be in the Running status.
Notes

Version upgrades are irreversible. You cannot roll back to a previous version after an upgrade.

Version upgrades may introduce risks and compatibility issues. We strongly recommend that you back up your data before you upgrade. For more information, see Backup and recovery.

During an upgrade, some queries may time out or fail. To minimize the impact on your business, perform upgrades during off-peak hours.
Procedure

Go to the instance details page.

Log on to the Alibaba Cloud Milvus console.

In the left navigation pane, click Milvus Instances.

On the instance list page, click the name of the target instance.

On the Details page, in the Basic Information section, click Upgrade next to Minor Version.

In the panel that appears, review the upgrade information and click OK.
The upgrade is successful when the instance status changes from Upgrading to Running.
