MSE Microservices Registry instances are available in Professional and Developer Editions, as the Basic Edition has been discontinued. This topic describes how to upgrade both the instance edition and the ZooKeeper engine version in the MSE console.
Background
To improve our services and simplify edition selection, the basic edition of MSE Microservices Registry will be discontinued, and its instances will be terminated at 12:00 (UTC+8) on March 3, 2025. After this time, you will no longer be able to access these instances from the console or your applications. Support and ticket services for basic edition instances will remain available until the deadline. For more details, see the Discontinuation of MSE Microservices Registry Basic Edition notice.
Upgrade impact
-
An instance upgrade takes approximately 10 minutes. During this period, you cannot perform any operations on the instance in the console. We recommend performing the upgrade during off-peak hours to minimize business impact.
-
For instances with three or more nodes, a rolling upgrade updates the nodes and automatically synchronizes data. This ensures a non-disruptive upgrade.
-
Instances with one or two nodes lack high availability, and the upgrade will completely interrupt service.
-
During the rolling upgrade, connections may drop and sessions may time out. Ensure that your client has a retry mechanism.
-
This non-disruptive upgrade does not affect business operations. However, network reconnections will generate logs, and monitoring data may show temporary fluctuations as the cluster restarts.
Upgrade the ZooKeeper engine version
-
Log on to the MSE console, and select a region in the top navigation bar.
-
In the left-side navigation pane, choose Microservices Registry > Instances.
-
You can start the upgrade in two ways:
-
Method 1: On the Instances page, find the target instance and click Manual Upgrade in the Product Engine Edition column.
NoteIf the instance is already on the latest version, Manual Upgrade is not displayed.
-
Method 2: On the Instances page, click the instance that you want to upgrade. On the Basic Information page, click Manual Upgrade next to Engine Version.
-
-
In the Cluster Upgrade dialog box, click OK.

Log on to the MSE console, and select a region in the top navigation bar.
-
On the Instances page, find the ZooKeeper Basic Edition instance and click More in the Actions column.

ImportantThe following restrictions apply when you change the Product Edition:
-
Basic Edition instances can be upgraded to Developer Edition and Professional Edition.
-
You can upgrade a Developer Edition instance only to the Developer Edition, not to the Professional Edition.
-
A Professional Edition instance can only be upgraded to the Professional Edition and cannot be downgraded to the Developer Edition.
-
-
Confirm the Engine specification, Number of Cluster Nodes, and the price in the lower-right corner of the page, then click Buy Now.
ImportantDuring the upgrade, do not reduce the cluster specifications, including the number of nodes, to prevent capacity risks and potential failures.
