NAS uses pay-as-you-go billing by default. Purchase resource plans to offset storage fees. Plans can be stacked for more capacity. When a plan expires or is exhausted, excess usage reverts to pay-as-you-go.

Resource plan types

Resource plan

Description

General-purpose NAS resource plan

Offsets storage fees for Storage Usage of General-purpose NAS (Capacity/Performance), IA storage class usage, or Archive Storage usage.

Extreme NAS resource plan

Offsets provisioned capacity fees for Extreme NAS (Standard/Advanced).

① This billable item covers data stored in Capacity, Advanced, and Performance NAS file systems.

Offset factors

Important

These offset factors apply only to Chinese mainland regions. For other regions, use the calculator and select a region to view its factors.

General-purpose NAS resource plan

General-purpose NAS (Capacity/Advanced/Performance) file systems use the Standard storage class by default. With a lifecycle management policy enabled, data matching the policy rules moves to the IA storage class or Archive Storage.

Purchase recommendations

Recommendation 1: Choose a plan type by billable item

Check the billable items in your billing details to determine the matching plan type. Each type maps to specific billable items in Resource plan types.

For example, if your bill shows Storage Usage of General-purpose NAS (Capacity/Performance), purchase a General-purpose NAS resource plan.

Recommendation 2: Choose a plan size by usage

Check the usage in your billing details to choose a plan size.

Resource plans offset only storage capacity fees. Offset factors vary by file system type and storage class. Use the calculator to plan capacity or view offset factors for a specific region.

For example, if your Performance NAS file system in China (Hangzhou) has 18 GiB hourly peak usage, a 100 GiB General-purpose NAS resource plan covers the storage fee.

Recommendation 3: Troubleshoot pay-as-you-go bills after purchasing a plan

  1. Check the billable item type, usage, and billing time on the billing details page.

  2. Check the plan type, capacity, and validity period on the Resource Plan List page.

  3. Compare the billable item with the resource plan.

    Example issue

    Cause

    Solution

Your bill shows 14 GiB hourly usage for Storage Usage of General-purpose NAS (Capacity/Performance). Your General-purpose NAS resource plan has 50 GiB total capacity.

The fee is for a Performance NAS file system with an offset factor of 5.47. A 50 GiB plan offsets only ~9.15 GiB (50 / 5.47) of Performance NAS usage, so the remaining usage is billed pay-as-you-go.

Upgrade the plan to 100 GiB or purchase an additional 50 GiB plan.

The bill predates the resource plan purchase.

Resource plans do not offset fees incurred before purchase.

    None

Recommendation 4: Reduce costs with lifecycle management

Combine a General-purpose NAS resource plan with lifecycle management to reduce costs:

  • Example: 100 GiB total — 20 GiB hot data in a Capacity file system, 60 GiB in IA storage, and 20 GiB in Archive Storage.

    • The equivalent base capacity of a General-purpose NAS resource plan is 20 GiB × 1 + 60 GiB × 0.43 + 20 GiB × 0.14 = 48.6 GiB.

    • The actual average unit price is 48.6 GiB × CNY 0.3/GiB/month ÷ 100 GiB = CNY 0.146/GiB/month.

  • Example: 100 GiB total — 20 GiB hot data in an Advanced file system, 60 GiB in IA storage, and 20 GiB in Archive Storage.

    • The equivalent base capacity of a General-purpose NAS resource plan is 20 GiB × 2.43 + 60 GiB × 0.43 + 20 GiB × 0.14 = 77.2 GiB.

    • The actual average unit price is 77.2 GiB × CNY 0.3/GiB/month ÷ 100 GiB = CNY 0.232/GiB/month.

  • Example: 100 GiB total — 20 GiB hot data in a Performance file system, 60 GiB in IA storage, and 20 GiB in Archive Storage.

    • The equivalent base capacity of a General-purpose NAS resource plan is 20 GiB × 5.47 + 60 GiB × 0.43 + 20 GiB × 0.14 = 138 GiB.

    • The actual average unit price is 138 GiB × CNY 0.3/GiB/month ÷ 100 GiB = CNY 0.414/GiB/month.

Offset limitations

  • NAS resource plans offset NAS fees only, not fees for other Alibaba Cloud products.

  • Each resource plan type offsets capacity fees only for its corresponding file system type. Resource plan types.

  • Region-specific plans offset capacity fees only within that region. A General resource plan for the Chinese mainland offsets fees across multiple Chinese mainland regions. Offset regions.

  • Expired or exhausted plans revert excess usage to pay-as-you-go billing.

Offset regions

NAS offers region-specific resource plans and General resource plans for the Chinese mainland.

Type

Description

Resource plan for a specific region

Offsets capacity fees for file systems in a specific region only. Not shareable across regions.

General resource plan for the Chinese mainland

Offsets capacity fees for file systems across multiple Chinese mainland regions.

① You can purchase both types simultaneously. Region-specific plans are applied first; after exhaustion, the General plan applies. Remaining usage is billed pay-as-you-go.

② Example: A China (Hangzhou) plan offsets fees only for resources in that region.

Offset order

Multiple resource plans of the same type are applied in this order:

  • Plans expiring earliest are applied first. Plans with the same expiration date are applied in purchase order.

Example: Plans A, B, and C in China (Hangzhou). C expires first; A and B expire together but A was purchased first. Offset order: C, A, B.

  • After a plan is exhausted, excess usage is billed pay-as-you-go.

If your account has a resource plan, a Storage Capacity Unit (SCU), and a storage plan, capacity is offset in the order shown below.Offset order
