This billing model applies to new users by default. Existing users can switch via the billing change wizard in the console. For questions, join DingTalk group 37120013838.

Billable items

Managed Service for OpenTelemetry charges for two categories: data ingestion and archive storage.

Data ingestion

Metrics, traces, and profiling share a single per-GB price that varies by region.

Note
  • The ingested data volume is the amount of data stored on the ARMS observability platform after processing (cleaning, aggregation, transformation, and analysis). This volume is distinct from the raw traffic reported by ARMS-proprietary or open-source agents and SDKs.

  • When billed by ingested data volume, each data type includes a free storage period. This period varies by data type and is fixed.

  • Activate a paid plan to receive a free quota. This quota is calculated at the Alibaba Cloud account level and is shared by all applications and instances under the account. The monthly free quota for Application Monitoring and Managed Service for OpenTelemetry can be used across regions. The free quota is deducted on a first-come, first-served basis according to the billing order of regions or applications.

  • Starting at 00:00 on July 1, 2024, Managed Service for OpenTelemetry will begin charging for default performance metrics. Charges for user-defined metrics are based on the volume of data written. All metrics are covered by the 25 GB of monthly free traffic for Managed Service for OpenTelemetry.

  • The free quotas for metrics and traces for Application Monitoring and Managed Service for OpenTelemetry are distinct and cannot be transferred or combined. For example, if you write 40 GB of trace data and 5 GB of metric data in a month, you will be billed for 15 GB of trace data. Any unused portion of the metrics quota is forfeited.

  • Profiling data consists of files generated by the Continuous Profiling and Application Diagnosis features in Application Monitoring. This data includes memory snapshots, performance analysis flame graphs, and thread status and call stack information from thread analysis.

  • For Application Monitoring and Managed Service for OpenTelemetry, the minimum daily usage for each billable data type per application is 0.1 GB. For example, if an application uses 20 MB of metrics, 10 MB of traces, and 0 MB of profiling data in one day, it is billed for 0.1 GB of metrics, 0.1 GB of traces, and 0 GB of profiling data.

Note
  • Only trace data can be archived.

  • After data is transferred to archive storage, you are billed for the uncompressed storage size. The daily archive storage fee is calculated using the following formula: Total daily uncompressed storage (GB) × Unit price per GB.

  • To enable or disable Archive Storage, go to the System Configuration > Cluster Configuration page in the Managed Service for OpenTelemetry console. In the Storage Retention Period Configuration section, select an archive storage period or disable archive storage. This feature takes effect on a per-region basis.

  • Supported archive storage periods: 60, 90, and 180 days.

Billing cycle

ARMS has a daily billing cycle. Each day at 00:00, ARMS calculates your resource usage from the previous day. Bills are generated before 08:00, and the fees are automatically deducted from your account if your balance is sufficient. You can view your bills on the Expenses and Costs page and check your resource usage in the ARMS console. For more information, see View bills and consumption data.

Activation method

Click the activation link. On the product purchase page, follow the prompts to activate the service.

Cost estimation

Estimate from actual usage

  • New to ARMS? Integrate a test application, then go to the Overview > Usage Statistics page to view your data and estimate future costs.

  • If you already use ARMS, go to the Overview > Usage Statistics page to view your data and estimate future costs.

Take application monitoring as an example. If you write 1,000 GB of data in China (Hangzhou) and 800 GB in China (Beijing) in a calendar month, your total monthly cost, after deducting the 50 GB monthly free quota, is: 0.4 * (1000 + 800 - 50) = CNY 700.

Estimate from business scale

The following table compares the new and previous billing models (assuming 1.27 KB average span size, 100 million spans/day, 30-day storage):

Note

The new model no longer bills separately for data reporting, trace storage, or metric storage.
