This topic describes how to change the billing method for metric data ingestion in Managed Service for Prometheus. This helps you choose a more cost-effective option.
Overview
Managed Service for Prometheus supports two billing methods for metric data ingestion. You can select a method that best fits your business needs. You can change the billing method for an instance only once.

Change the billing method
Specify billing method at creation
Log on to the Prometheus console. In the left-side navigation pane, click Instances.

Click Create Prometheus Instance. On the Create Instance page, select general-purpose instance for the instance type, enter an instance name, and select a resource group and region. In the billing method drop-down list, select either billing by metric sample count or billing by remote write metric data size. You can also click This setting will be used as the default value to make the selected method the default for future instances. After you configure the other parameters, click Create Now.
Change billing for an existing instance
Log on to the Prometheus console. In the left-side navigation pane, click Instances.

On the instance list page, find your instance and click Settings in the Actions column. Then, click the edit icon
next to Billing Method. -
In the Modify Billing Method dialog box, select a new billing method and click OK.
NoteThe new billing method applies to the entire day on which you make the switch. For example, if you change the billing method at 11:24 on December 21, 2024, the charges for the entire day of December 21 and all subsequent days are calculated based on the new billing method.
