Refunds

The following table describes the refund eligibility for ApsaraDB RDS based on the billing method.

Refund policy

Subscription

When you purchase a subscription RDS instance, you must pay in advance for the subscription duration. If you no longer need the subscription instance due to business adjustments, you can request a refund. Before you request a refund, read the Alibaba Cloud product unsubscription rules. Then, log on to the Subscription Cancellation Management page to cancel your subscription. The system calculates the refund based on your instance usage.

Pay-as-you-go and Serverless

Pay-as-you-go and Serverless RDS instances are billed in real time based on actual usage. Therefore, refunds are not applicable. If you no longer need these instances, you can release them after you back up or migrate your data to avoid business interruptions. After an instance is released, it is no longer billed. For more information about how to release an RDS instance, see Release an ApsaraDB RDS for PostgreSQL instance.

  • You can use pay-as-you-go ApsaraDB RDS resources with RDS storage plans, RDS compute plans, and RDS savings plans. These plans allow you to pay for pay-as-you-go resources at a discounted price. Generally, these plans do not support refunds.

  • Refunds may also occur in scenarios that involve switching billing methods or downgrading instances. For more information, see the relevant documents.

Scenario

Description

Switch between billing methods

After you switch the billing method of an ApsaraDB RDS for PostgreSQL instance from subscription to pay-as-you-go, the remaining prepayment for the subscription instance is refunded to you. The refund is calculated using the following formula:

Refund amount = Actual payment - Consumed amount

Note
  • Actual payment: The amount paid for the order in cash. This does not include deductions from coupons.

  • Consumed amount = Daily price of the subscription × Usage duration × Discount for the usage duration

Downgrade a subscription instance

After you downgrade a subscription instance, the price difference between the old and new configurations is refunded to you.

Cancel a renewal

After you renew a subscription instance, if you cancel the subscription before the renewal order takes effect, the renewal fee is fully refunded. For more information, see the Unsubscribe from a renewal period section in Unsubscription rules.
