Elastic Savings Plan (Special Offer)

Overview

The Elastic Savings Plan (Special Offer) is a discount plan that applies to the RCU and storage space billable items for RDS Serverless products.

You pay for a total committed spend upfront. Based on this commitment, the system calculates a total deductible amount to cover your RCU and storage space bills for Serverless instances over a six-month period. If you do not use the full deductible amount within six months, any remaining balance expires. If you use up the deductible amount before the six-month term ends, subsequent usage is charged at the standard pay-as-you-go rate.

Use cases

• Your workload for RDS Serverless instances fluctuates, causing hourly RCU and storage space costs to vary.

• You use RDS Serverless instances intermittently, such as for learning or testing for a few hours each day.

• You use a mix of RDS Serverless instances and fixed-specification instances (subscription or pay-as-you-go). You can use a Compute Savings Plan to cover some of the pay-as-you-go costs for your fixed-specification instances, while using an Elastic Savings Plan (Special Offer) for your fluctuating Serverless RCU and storage space costs.

How it works

RCU and storage space costs for RDS Serverless products.

Deductible amount

Your committed spend is not directly applied to your RDS pay-as-you-go bill. The deductible amount, which covers your bill, is calculated from your committed spend. The formula is: $$Totalcommittedspend/0.40.$$.

Stacking rules and deduction order

• You can purchase multiple Elastic Savings Plans. Deductions are made from plans in order of their expiration date, with the one expiring soonest used first. If plans share the same expiration date, the one purchased first is used first.

• You can have both Compute Savings Plans and Elastic Savings Plans (Special Offer), but Compute Savings Plans are always applied first.

Deduction examples

Assume you purchase an Elastic Savings Plan with a committed spend of 500 CNY. The resulting deductible amount is 1,250 CNY (500 / 0.40).

• Scenario A: You have one Serverless Basic Edition instance that consistently uses 0.5 RCU and 20 GB of storage space per hour. The hourly cost for RCU and storage space is 0.2005 CNY (0.333 CNY/RCU/hour * 0.5 RCU + 0.0017 CNY/GB/hour * 20 GB), which is deducted from your deductible amount. After six months (180 days), a total of 866.16 CNY (0.2005 CNY/hour * 24 hours * 180 days) is deducted from the deductible amount. The remaining 383.84 CNY expires.

• Scenario B: You have one Serverless High-Availability Edition instance and one Serverless Basic Edition instance. The high-availability instance consistently uses 2 RCUs and 100 GB of storage space per hour, for a daily cost of 20.064 CNY ((0.333 CNY/RCU/hour * 2 RCUs + 0.0017 CNY/GB/hour * 100 GB) * 24 hours). The basic edition instance runs for 14 hours a day, using 2 RCUs and 100 GB of storage space per hour at a cost of 0.836 CNY per hour. It is paused for 10 hours, during which RCU billing stops, but the 100 GB of storage space continues to be billed at 0.17 CNY per hour. The total daily cost for the basic instance is 13.404 CNY. Your 1,250 CNY deductible amount will be fully used in approximately 38 days (1,250 CNY / (20.064 CNY + 13.404 CNY)).

Set Group By to Product and Cost Type to List Price. Then, in the filter criteria on the right, select the RCU, RDS Serverless and Storage, RDS Serverless billable items.

Savings Plans cannot be modified or canceled after purchase. We recommend starting with a lower committed spend. You can always purchase a new savings plan as your current one nears exhaustion.
