Overview of instance management for end users

An administrator can create multiple end users and grant them permission to access and launch specific products. This separates people management from business management. End users with the right permissions can view products, launch products, and manage instances.

Scenarios

Service Catalog uses a divide-and-conquer approach to management. This allows end users to quickly find and use products for which they have permissions and to manage the instance lifecycle. This approach improves team efficiency and helps meet the challenges of rapid business growth. For example, if multiple business teams in a company need to manage ECS products, an administrator can create a product portfolio. The administrator can add ECS products that meet security and compliance requirements to the portfolio. Then, the administrator grants permissions to the business teams. The team members can then launch products, update instances, or stop instances themselves. This reduces approval flows and speeds up business delivery.

Usage examples

An administrator must first grant end users permission to manage Service Catalog. For more information, see Grant permissions to an end user.

End users can follow these steps to use an instance:

  1. Launch a product.

  2. Query an instance.

  3. Update an instance or stop an instance.
