This topic describes how to view resource plan usage and identify potential waste.

Resource plan overview

The Instances page summarizes each resource plan instance, including its total capacity, remaining capacity, and status, to help you effectively manage your purchased resource plans.

  1. Log on to the Expenses and Costs console.

  2. In the navigation pane on the left, choose Account > Resource Plan.

  3. On the Resource Plan page, select a Resource, then click the Instances tab.

  4. Select an Start At time and Status, enter a Resource Plan ID, and click Search to view the required information.

For example, to check if a resource plan has been used for deduction, compare the Total and Remaining fields. If the Remaining quantity is less than the Total quantity, the plan has been partially used. You can also click View Summary in the Operations column to view its deduction details.

By default, the page displays data for the current account. If you use a management account, you can also filter by account to view data for member accounts.

The following table describes the parameters on the Instances tab.

Parameter

Description

Resource purchase account

The account that purchased the resource plan.

Product name

The Alibaba Cloud product that the resource plan belongs to.

Commodity name

The name of the resource plan, for example, Reserved Instance, Storage Capacity Unit, PolarDB Compute Plan, or ApsaraVideo Live Traffic Plan.

Resource plan type

The category of the resource plan, for example, RI Zone Deduction, Compute Plan, or Reserved Space.

Resource plan instance ID

The ID of the resource plan instance.

Instance type

The instance type covered by the resource plan, such as ecs.g6.large.

Region

The region where the resource plan applies.

Status

The status of the resource plan. Valid values: Active, Exhausted, and Expired.

Active: The plan is in effect and can be used for deductions.

Exhausted: The plan has not expired but has no remaining capacity and cannot be used for deductions.

Expired: The plan has expired.

Commitment cycle

The capacity refresh cycle of the resource plan, formerly known as "Capacity Category". Six types are available: No Period, Hourly, Daily, and Monthly. The Monthly type includes Free trial, By calendar month, and By dynamic month subtypes.

  • No Period: Deductions are based on actual consumption until the plan's capacity is depleted or it expires.

  • Hourly: Provides a fixed quota every hour. Unused quota does not roll over to the next hour.

  • Daily: Provides a fixed quota every day. Unused quota does not roll over to the next day.

  • Monthly - Free trial: Provides a fixed monthly quota that is fully restored on the first day of the next month. If the plan is activated after 00:00 on the first day of a month, the first and last months share one month's quota. For all other months, unused quota does not roll over.

  • Monthly - By calendar month: Provides a fixed monthly quota that is fully restored on the first day of the next month. Unused quota does not roll over.

  • Monthly - By dynamic month: Provides a fixed monthly quota that is fully restored at 00:00 on the day after the monthly purchase date. Unused quota does not roll over.

Total

Remaining

The remaining capacity of a "No Period" resource plan, which decreases with usage.

If the remaining quantity is less than the total quantity, the plan is partially used. If it is 0, the plan is fully used.

Period capacity

The remaining capacity of the resource plan for the current cycle.

For resource plans with a refresh cycle (not 'No Period'), the period capacity decreases with usage while the plan is Active. If the status is Expired, the period capacity equals the total capacity.

For "No Period" resource plans, this parameter is displayed as a hyphen (-).

Capacity unit

The unit of the resource plan's capacity, such as GB or CU*H.

For "No Period" resource plans, this parameter is displayed as a hyphen (-).

Purchase time

The time when the resource plan instance was purchased.

Effective/Expiration Time

The start and end times of the resource plan's validity period. The plan only deducts usage that occurs within this period.

Actions

You can perform the following operations on the resource plans that you purchased:

  • Statistics: View usage details, including how deductions are distributed among instances.

  • Renew: If your resource plan is about to expire, you can renew it to extend its validity. This operation is available for certain types of resource plans that support renewal, such as OSS storage plans.

  • Upgrade: If your existing resource plan's specifications are insufficient, you can upgrade it. This operation is available for certain types of resource plans that support dynamic adjustment, such as storage resource plans.

  • Replace: Allows you to replace your current resource plan with a plan of a different specification or type. This operation is available for certain types of resource plans that support flexible adjustment, such as OSS storage resource plans.

Resource plan usage details

Usage details provide a per-deduction log, showing which pay-as-you-go instances were offset, the billable items, the time of deduction, the deducted quantity, and the deduction coefficient. You can use this data to reconcile deductions with your pay-as-you-go bills.

  1. Log on to the Expenses and Costs console.

  2. In the navigation pane on the left, choose Account > Resource Plan.

  3. On the Resource Plan page under the Resource view, click the Details tab.

    Deduction coefficient

The coefficient applied when a resource plan deducts the usage of a cloud resource. For example, if 0.13 GiB of SCU capacity can deduct 1 GiB of PDS storage, the deduction coefficient for SCU to PDS is 0.13.

Resource plan utilization

Resource plan utilization

Utilization is the percentage of a purchased resource plan that you have consumed. It helps you assess the effectiveness of your resource plans. Higher utilization means you are getting more value from your purchase. The formula is: resource plan utilization = Used Amount / Total Amount.

Note

Currently, you can view the utilization overview only for Reserved Instance (RI) and Storage Capacity Unit (SCU) plans.

The summary values are calculated as follows:

  1. Total pay-as-you-go instance cost: Sum of the 'Equivalent Pay-as-you-go Cost' during the specified period.

  2. Total resource purchase cost: Total cost of resource plans purchased during the specified period.

  3. Total savings: Total savings during the specified period.

  4. Total potential savings: Total potential savings during the specified period.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the Expenses and Costs console.

  2. In the navigation pane on the left, choose Account > Resource Plan.

  3. Under Resource, select Reserved Instance or SCU, then click the Usage tab.

  4. In the Conditions on the right, use Query by Budget to select a Budget Name. Select a Time Granularity and Range. Apply other filters such as Service, Reserved Instance Type, and Operating System to refine your search. You can then view the Usage overview and Usage Details.
