Environment assessment

Updated at:

The intelligent delivery tool performs an environment assessment by collecting information about your network, peripherals, and software. The tool uses this information to calculate the recommended number of cloud computers based on your bandwidth or the recommended bandwidth based on your deployment needs.

Procedure

  1. Open the Wuying Deployment Tool. On the home page, click the arrow on the Environment Assessment card.

  2. On the Create Assessment Task page, configure the following items:

    Configuration Item

    Description

    Customer Name

Enter the customer name or Alibaba Cloud UID.

    Customer Type

    • Secure Office

    • Branch Office

    • Cross-border Enterprise

    • Education Cloud Data Center | Cloud-based Hands-on Labs | Education and Training

    • RPA

    • Other

    Scenarios

Daily bandwidth requirements vary by scenario. For example, design and online education typically require more network bandwidth.

    • General Office Work

    • Design and Drafting

    • Software Development

    • Data Analytics

    • Online Education

    • Customer requests

    • Other

    Select Assessment Content

    • On-premises Network: Checks network connectivity to the target region, concurrent connections, and bandwidth.

    • On-premises Peripherals: Scans on-premises peripherals and checks for compatibility.

    • On-premises Applications: Scans local applications for details such as name, version, and developer to help analyze deployment requirements for cloud computers.

    • On-premises Device: Displays information about the on-premises device, including system info and disk usage.

  3. Click Start Test. On the Configure On-premises Network Information page, configure the following items:

    Configuration Item

    Description

    Test Objective

    • Test on-premises network conditions: The deployment tool calculates the recommended and maximum number of cloud computers to deploy based on the quality of the on-premises network.

    • Test based on deployment requirements: The deployment tool calculates the required network bandwidth, including recommended and minimum downstream bandwidth, based on your cloud computer deployment plan.

    Cloud Computer Region

The region where you plan to deploy the cloud computers.

    Cloud Computer Resolution

Select the display resolution for the cloud computers you plan to use. A higher resolution requires more bandwidth.

    Expected Number of Cloud Computers

If you set Test Objective to Test based on deployment requirements, enter the number of cloud computers you plan to purchase.

    Test Location

The location where the test runs.

  4. Click Confirm and Start Test. After the test is complete, click Generate Report. You can view or delete past reports by clicking Historical Reports on the Environment Assessment card on the home page.

  5. (Optional) After the report is generated, click Supplemental Stability Test in the upper-right corner. The stability test takes about 30 minutes. To ensure accurate results, use the device as you normally would during the test.

Best practices

To obtain assessment results that accurately reflect your production environment, follow these best practices when testing:

  • Choose the right time to test: Run the test during peak business hours, such as 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on workdays. This helps ensure that the results reflect performance under a realistic network load.

  • Test multiple times for accuracy: Run the test two or three times and use the average of the results. This helps prevent errors caused by temporary network fluctuations.

  • Differentiate network environments: If your office has both wired and wireless (Wi-Fi) networks, test each one separately. This helps you evaluate the performance differences between connection types and provides a basis for network optimization.
