Elastic Desktop Service (EDS) policies control settings across user experience, security, auditing, peripherals, collaboration, and AI. This topic covers user experience policy settings: display, connection, and media redirection.
Display
Display settings control the visual quality of a cloud computer.
| Parameter | Description |
|---|
| Display mode | Sets the display mode for the cloud computer. Options: User-defined, Daily Office, Design and 3D applications, and Custom. See Display mode options. |
| Image quality policy | Improves visual quality on graphics cloud computers. Enable this for graphics cloud computers used for design workloads.
Note Applies only to graphics cloud computers that use the HDX protocol. |
| Resolution setting | Controls screen resolution. Options: Adaptive and Fixed. See Resolution options. |
Display mode options
| Option | Best for | Effect |
|---|
| User-defined | Flexible deployments | End users can switch the display mode on their terminals. Also requires setting Image Quality. For details, see Set keyboard response mode and mouse mode. |
| Daily Office | Document editing and video viewing | Locks the display mode to Intelligent Mode. |
| Design and 3D applications | Graphically intensive workloads | Locks the display mode to Smoothness First. |
| Custom | Advanced tuning | Lets you configure adaptive scenarios, color enhancement, and smoothness enhancement. |
Resolution options
| Option | Behavior |
|---|
| Adaptive | Resolution automatically adjusts to match the client's display area. |
| Fixed | Resolution stays at the value you set, regardless of the client's display area. DPI is fixed at 100. Default: 1920x1080 px. Range: 640x480 px to 4096x2160 px. Pixel values must be even numbers. |
Connection
Connection settings control how a cloud computer connects and handles network transmission.
Applicability
| Parameter | Protocol | Minimum image version | Supported clients |
|---|
| Network transmission (UDP and TCP modes) | Adaptive Streaming Protocol (ASP) | V1.0.0 | Any client type, V5.2.0 or later |
| Network transmission (AUTO and AST modes) | ASP | V1.5.0 | Any client type, V6.5.0 or later |
Network transmission modes
| Mode | Characteristic | Best for |
|---|
| AUTO | Automatically switches between AST and UDP based on the visual content of the cloud computer. | General use with varying content types |
| UDP | Higher definition | Office work and high-definition graphics design |
| AST | Higher smoothness | Frequent audio and video usage |
| TCP | Highest connection success rate | Environments where UDP or AST is blocked by firewall rules or rate limiting |
UDP is the default mode. If the network has UDP port restrictions—such as those imposed by anti-attack policies or rate limiting—select TCP mode. If an administrator selects AUTO or AST mode but the user's cloud computer does not meet the requirements, the client automatically falls back to TCP mode.
