Component management is a module for managing operating system extension components. It allows you to install, upgrade, and uninstall components on nodes (ECS instances) or on ECS instances within ACK clusters.

Limitations

  • This feature is currently available only in the Chinese mainland and China (Hong Kong) regions.

  • Cluster management supports only Alibaba Cloud Container Service (ACK) managed clusters.

SysOM is the core management component for the operating system. All console features depend on the SysOM component.

Note

SysOM component resource usage:

  • Memory: Approximately 300 MiB on average, with a maximum of 500 MiB.

  • CPU: An average of 5% on a single-core CPU.

OS Copilot User Guide

Prerequisites

  • If you use a RAM user, ensure the AliyunECSReadOnlyAccess and AliyunSysomFullAccess system policies are attached to the RAM user.

  • Access to the console is enabled.

When you log on to the Operating System Console for the first time, click Enable Service.

Warning

If you change the operating system on a managed ECS instance, you must uninstall the component and then reinstall it. Otherwise, the management state on the System Management page will remain offline, preventing you from using features in the Operating System Console.

Install a component

Important

The installation process may consume system resources. To ensure business stability, we recommend the following practices:

  • Install in batches: Avoid large-scale concurrent operations and limit the number of machines in a single batch.

  • Prepare a rollback plan: This ensures quick recovery in case of failures.

  1. Go to Operating System Console - Component Management.

  2. Select the component you want to install and click Install.

  3. In the upper-left corner of the page, select the region where your target instance is located.

  4. Install the component.

    • Install on a node

Set Component Operation to Install, set Operation Method to Node, and select the target instances.

      Note

The instance list shows only instances with operating systems supported by the component. If an instance is not listed, check the component's supported OS range.

    • Install on a cluster

Set Component Operation to Install, set Operation Method to Cluster, and select the target cluster on which you want to install the component.

      Note
      • When you add a cluster for management for the first time, the component is installed on all of its current ECS instances (up to a maximum of 50 nodes per batch).

      • The Operating System Console periodically checks managed clusters for scale-out events. When a new ECS instance is added to a cluster, the console automatically installs the component on it.

  5. Click Execute to view the installation status. Click View Details to check the execution status for each instance.

Update a component

  1. Go to Operating System Console - Component Management.

  2. Select the component you want to upgrade and click Manage.

  3. In the upper-left corner of the page, select the region where your target instance is located.

  4. Update the component.

    • Update on a node

Set Component Operation to Update, set Operation Method to Node, and select the target instances.

      Note

The instance list shows only instances where the component can be updated. Instances that already have the latest version are not displayed.

    • Update on a cluster

Set Component Operation to Update, set Operation Method to Cluster, and select the target cluster on which you want to update the component.

      Note
      • When you update a component in a managed cluster, the update is applied to all of its current ECS instances (up to a maximum of 50 nodes per batch).

      • The Operating System Console periodically checks managed clusters for scale-out events. If a new ECS instance with an outdated component is added to the cluster, the console automatically updates the component.

  5. Click Execute to view the update status. Click View Details to check the execution status for each instance.

    Note

By default, the component is updated to the latest version.

Uninstall a component

  1. Go to Operating System Console - Component Management.

  2. Select the component you want to uninstall and click Manage.

  3. In the upper-left corner of the page, select the region where your target instance is located.

  4. Uninstall the component.

    • Uninstall from a node

Set Component Operation to Uninstall, set Operation Method to Node, and select the target instances.

    • Uninstall from a cluster

Set Component Operation to Uninstall, set Operation Method to Cluster, and select the target cluster from which you want to uninstall the component.

      Note
      • When you uninstall a component from a managed cluster, it is removed from all of its current ECS instances (up to a maximum of 50 nodes per batch).

      • The Operating System Console periodically checks for scaled-in events in managed clusters. When an ECS instance is removed from a cluster, the console automatically uninstalls the component from that instance.

  5. Click Execute to view the uninstallation status. Click View Details to check the execution status for each instance.

Component details

  1. Go to Operating System Console - Component Management.

  2. On the Installed tab, click Details for the component.
