Change disk storage type
AnalyticDB for PostgreSQL offers multiple disk storage types with different performance and pricing tiers. Change your instance's disk storage type to match your workload.
Prerequisites
The instance uses Elastic Storage Mode.
Supported disk types
AnalyticDB for PostgreSQL supports the following disk types. Compare their performance in Block storage performance.
-
PL0 ESSD
-
PL1 ESSD
-
PL2 ESSD
NotePL2 ESSD requires more than 500 GB storage per node.
-
ultra disk
NoteUltra disks are unavailable for new purchases. Existing instances are not affected.
Considerations
-
An ESSD cannot be changed to an Efficient Cloud Disk.
-
You can upgrade from PL0 ESSD to PL1 or PL2, but cannot downgrade from PL1 or PL2 to PL0.
-
Changing the disk storage type affects read/write performance. Perform this operation during off-peak hours.
-
Changing the disk storage type can take several hours or longer. Duration depends on scaling throughput, storage space, and the original disk type.
The following table shows estimated durations for typical scenarios.

Billing
After the change, billing is based on the new disk storage type (pricing).
Procedure
Choose the optimal disk storage type and node specifications for your workload (Instance types and selection).
- Log on to the AnalyticDB for PostgreSQL console.
- In the upper-left corner of the console, select a region.
- Find the target instance. In the Actions column, select Scale compute nodes > Upgrade Node Specifications.
-
On the Change Specifications page, select the target disk storage type.
Modify other configurations from Scale compute nodes.
NoteDuring the storage type change, the database remains accessible but performance may degrade. If you also change compute node specifications, the database enters read-only mode during that process.
- Accept the service agreement and click Buy Now.
After scaling starts, the instance status changes to Upgrading/Downgrading. When the instance status returns to Running, the change is complete.
