Scale your cloud success
For enterprises that have successfully adopted the cloud, use the following five dimensions to assess whether you are ready to use cloud technology to achieve your strategic goals:
Have you established the necessary cloud organization during your cloud migration? This organization's resources should be sufficiently elastic to replicate the landing zone and migrate more systems to the cloud.
Have you developed a process to identify the next applications for migration? Can you clearly explain how migrating these applications aligns with your cloud strategy?
When you migrate new systems, make changes, or scale out, can you select the appropriate cloud technologies and resource configurations? Can you create and implement a migration plan for these systems while maintaining the landing zone baseline?
Can you meet business requirements throughout the migration, deployment, testing, validation, and cutover stages? Can you also meet security, reliability, and performance targets?
After deployment, can you maintain normal operations of your systems on the cloud, including financial management? Can you track and monitor Operations and Maintenance (O&M) metrics, and promptly receive, assess, and handle alerts?
Meeting these standards indicates that your enterprise has developed the necessary organization, processes, and best practices during its cloud journey. You can ensure continuous cloud migration as long as your technology stack remains stable.
For most enterprises, migrating only one or two systems is not enough to meet these standards. You typically need to migrate three or more representative systems. This helps you develop the ability to replicate your cloud success through an iterative process. During this phase, the cloud adoption team must work closely together to understand each stage and refine their collaboration process.
Once you determine that you meet these standards and have standardized the migration process, you can create a comprehensive plan. This plan lets you rapidly migrate the systems on your strategic roadmap using a standard approach to achieve your strategic goals. At this stage, you can form specialized teams for planning, execution, and O&M. These teams can work in a continuous cycle to improve migration efficiency.
